You don't get what you don't ask for. I couldn't tell you how many times I've reiterated this statement when it comes to #sales, #staffing, and #recruiting. Ask for a #meeting. Ask for a #referral. Ask for an #interview. Rarely do I see successful professionals in the industry struggling to ask for what they want externally. Internally, however? I couldn't tell you how many friends have asked for my advice with negotiating a new #salary, additional #pto, or a well-deserved #promotion. What's the worst answer you could get? "No." That's it. Obviously, you need to be able to back up your request. Don't just walk into your quarterly review with your director and ask for a raise with no justification. Think about one of the openings below: "Based off of industry average..." "Considering my contributions to ABC and proven performance hitting XYZ goals.." "This is what I'm seeing in the market..." The point is, I have way too many friends that struggle to articulate requests when it comes to asking for more. Personally, I'd always prefer to receive a "no" or a "not right now" as opposed to quietly being discontent with my situation. You're never getting an extra Chick-fil-A sauce in the Chick-fil-A Restaurants drive-through if you don't ask for it!
