"She left in 90 days." He pulled up a spreadsheet. Executive coaching. A six-month leadership program. Weekly sessions with a consultant who charged more per hour than most people make in a day. "When did she finish?" I asked. "January." "What happened after?" He looked at me like the question didn't make sense. "She went back to her role." "Same desk?" "Same desk." "Did anyone schedule a conversation about what was next?" He looked at his desk for a moment. "No." "So, you spent $40,000 on development, and nobody booked a 30-minute follow-up to ask what she learned or what she wanted to do with it." The CEO looked at the spreadsheet again. "I thought the program was the investment." "The program was the expense," I said. "The investment was supposed to come after." Developing someone isn't the same as deploying them. Matthew Williams liked thisMatthew Williams liked thisBody finally tapped out. 6 months of solid and increasingly more challenging work has yielded amazing results. I can’t recall a time in my life where I slept almost 13 hours. I’ve been going really hard for months and upped the output a bit this week by adding a 10% incline to my walks (12K steps a day). I’m also on the stairclimber 6 days a week at a minimum of 70 steps per minute (30 min lifting days, 45 min non lifting days). This has reduced my resting heart rate significantly. It’s probably lower than it’s ever been. My coach also dropped my calories by 300/day because I’d plateaued for a couple weeks and now down 52lbs in 6 months. Having great data with the whoop band while tracking food (it helps that it’s the same menu every day) and output everyday gives me an incredible amount of data for my coach and I to act upon. I feel like I’m in a lab at 50 years old and tweaking things little by little. Lol. Anyway, thanks for coming to my self discovery Ted talk. #fitoverfifty #justgettingstarted
