Mid-band spectrum - the core of 5G coverage. 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 🧊Unlike technologies like Bluetooth or UWB that require specialized hardware, 5G uses the same existing infrastructure for both high-quality connectivity and precise positioning. 🧊This integration significantly reduces deployment, management, and maintenance costs. 🧊Positioning data is natively provided in global coordinates, eliminating the need to translate from local systems. 𝟮. 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 🧊A major advantage of 5G positioning is the ability to provide a continuous service as devices move between indoor and outdoor environments with negligible interruption. 🧊While GNSS (satellite-based) is reliable outdoors, it often fails in "urban canyons" or indoor settings where a large fraction of 5G devices are located. 🧊Current indoor tests show that sub-meter accuracy is achievable with 90% reliability in lightly cluttered environments. 𝟯. This will allow for the positioning of non-connected objects—like tracking drones near airports or mapping a city’s physical environment in real-time. 𝟱.
