Rashmi Menon heeft dit geplaatstI caught myself telling my daughter the other day to stop “dimming” herself. To lead with her accomplishments. To put herself out there even if she didn’t feel 100% ready. (“Fake it till you make it”, “Hustle”, “Lean in”) Then I stopped. I realized I was teaching her how to thrive in a system designed around outdated archetypes. I was subtly framing her instinct to be thorough, precise, and wait until the work is undeniable as something to overcome. But what if that instinct is her superpower? For years, we’ve called this “empowerment”. Encouraging some people to speak louder, move faster, take up more space. While well-intentioned, what we’re really doing is training them to play by rules they didn’t create. As AI takes over the brute-force thinking - data crunching, optimization, execution - the traditionally rewarded “left-brain” traits are becoming easier to replicate. What isn’t? Gut. Empathy. Nuance. The discipline to sit with uncertainty. More listening, more rigor, more intellectual humility. The quiet brilliance of the unchecked box! So, here's my message to both my son and daughter. Listening is not passive, humility is not a lack of confidence, and empathy isn’t a “soft skill.” In the world we’re moving toward, this may be the highest form of intelligence.

Rashmi Menon heeft dit geplaatstLast week was a symbolic week with international women’s day and studded with many fantastic events organized by LinkedIn Women In Tech (WIT). Some of the topics that surfaced last week for further introspection were the nuances of psychological safety and inclusion. Thank you LinkedIn, for creating and enabling forums to talk about and discuss these topics. I’d like to share a perspective that crystallized for me last week as a result of these discussions. A disclaimer - my perspective is biased by the virtue of it being derived from my personal experience and that I am not visually impaired or that I react to/absorb information from visual cues. Eye contact and being present in a conversation is paramount to building trust and psychological safety, for me. There is a nuanced feeling of exclusion that I have experienced more recently in the world of virtual meetings (here to stay) where a screen is in the way of eye contact and being present is all the more challenging with the distractions the screen has to offer. In an in-person meeting, it is easier to tune out the distracted folks and not rely on their facial expressions for visual feedback. In a virtual setting however, when the video is on, especially in a 1:1 or a small audience setting, the faces of the attendees are in focus and micro expressions become hard to miss. In a 1:1, when I am sharing something personal or being vulnerable, I rely on visual feedback from facial reactions all the more to feel psychologically safe. In a meeting with a few attendees, when attendees are engaged in side channels, their facial expressions always give it away as hard as they might try and the “psychological safety quotient” in the room drops for me. Based on my experiences, I resolve to implement the following - in a virtual 1:1 that is not a working 1:1, especially when something personal is being discussed, I will take my hands off the keyboard. In a virtual meeting with less than 5 attendees with videos switched on, I will be extra aware that my facial expressions can impact the level of psychological safety experienced by the meeting attendees. #psychologicalsafety #wit #virtualmeetings #eyecontact

Rashmi Menon heeft hierop gereageerdRashmi Menon heeft hierop gereageerd"Measuring AI token usage to judge engineering productivity is like measuring sawdust to judge a carpenter." A friend put it better than I ever could. Yet, many are stuck measuring engineering productivity by token burn. Plenty of sawdust means someone's been busy. It tells you nothing about whether any furniture got sold. Right now a lot of engineering orgs are burning tokens and shipping faster than ever and still can't answer a simple question: what ROI are we actually getting? How are you measuring the ROI in your org? Would love to hear what's working and not working for you. cc Vivek Kumar Bhaskar Ghosh Kumar S. Debu Chatterjee Praveen Neppalli Naga Ashish B.

Rashmi Menon vond dit interessantRashmi Menon vond dit interessantDuring my recent trip to India, I reconnected with my longtime friend Vineet Sharma . I have known for over 25 years — college, hanging out, the works. He moved back from New York years ago and set up a manufacturing plant in Greater Noida(effectively Delhi NCR). The factory now produces everything from massive decks for tunnel-boring machines for Thailand to giant shuttlecock sculptures for the Bhubaneswar stadium, as well as specialized components and machines for railways and aviation. After spending a day, I was genuinely amazed by what he had put together. I went in with one question: could AI plug into this floor? Either in production or in management. Honestly, I also went because I was curious to see how all this actually gets made. What Vineet showed me was that AI on a factory floor might be less of a capability question and more of an economics question. Labor costs in manufacturing are climbing, and operators like him are actively looking for what new technology can do. But the available AI tooling assumes you can afford to hire expensive programmers to set it up — which puts most of it out of reach for medium-sized businesses. He's been exploring robots — vision-based systems working within a 3-meter cube — and he's clear on where they break down: the moment a part shows any real distortion, they can't handle it. The technology itself isn't the bottleneck. The programming cost for each new part is. Many of these questions overlap with what we wrestle with at Neeva ( product development Os powered by agents) — different surface, similar core problems. Where are you seeing AI agents land on real factory floors? Where does the math work? What batch sizes, what use cases, what kind of operations? If you're in manufacturing or AI x physical, I'd love to hear what you're seeing.

Rashmi Menon heeft hierop gereageerdRashmi Menon heeft hierop gereageerdMy mother worked her whole life to reach the highest tier of retirement benefits in India. The commute was awful. The bosses were a mixed bag. And every time I urged her to stop, she'd say some version of: I've come this far. Just a little longer. She made it. And then, suddenly, she had all this time with nowhere to put it. Enter Bollywood and a chance to *finally* indulge her love for singing. I knew she'd always loved music the way most women of her generation loved music: in the background, when life allowed, never just for herself. Post-retirement, though, something shifted. She signed up for Hindustani classical lessons. Then vocal training. She kept going through the pandemic on Zoom (because of course she did). And then she started performing at live shows in her city. Music became a source of purpose. Especially now that her identity as a worker and mother were no longer front and center. One might say ... music became her 'thing'. What I didn't expect was that it would become *our* thing. Bollywood music became a centerpiece of so many of our conversations especially when music show organizers would announce specific criteria for upcoming performances, and she'd call me to brainstorm. Songs about loneliness. Female solos produced by A.R. Rahman. Duets featuring Shah Rukh Khan. We'd excitedly discuss options so she could quickly shortlist the ones that fit her range and put her name against them. I always wanted to do more. But I was limited by time and, honestly, my own patchy memory of 70 years of Bollywood music. So when a build challenge crossed my feed a few weeks ago, I thought: what if I finally just built her the thing? I used Lovable for the interface and Wispr Flow to dictate prompts. The app is called *Bollywood Song Finder*. She can type in her criteria and get back 8-10 songs, complete with singer, film, year, actors, and a YouTube link. And she can save songs into set lists to access later. Most importantly, she can now be first one at every show to find a song that fits the brief and put her name against it. I missed the submission deadline for the Wispr Flow and Lovable 'Built for Moms' challenge. And I don't care even a little. Because it was the inspiration, not the point of doing this. If you love Bollywood music, or you want to gift something like this to a parent, it's live and public. Link in comments. Happy Mother's Day, Amma! (I may be cynical about 'days', but I love your love of music, and importantly, I love you)

Rashmi Menon heeft hierop gereageerdMy LinkedIn feed is usually full of AI agents, automation, and software. So it’s honestly refreshing to see something built with hands, heart, obsession over detail, and countless hours of real world hard work. I’ve had a front row seat to everything my wife has poured into Benedicts, and I couldn’t be prouder watching her bring this vision to life.Rashmi Menon heeft hierop gereageerdLeaving a successful engineering career wasn’t an easy decision, but building something of my own has always been a dream I wanted to pursue. Over the last 13 years, leading incredible teams at VMware in the US has been one of the most rewarding journeys of my life. But over time, I found myself increasingly drawn to building something more tangible, something rooted in everyday experiences and real-world interactions. Moving back to 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲 gave me the space to explore life outside of tech, and eventually, the courage to try something completely new. Today, I’m excited to share that we’re opening 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝘀 in Bangalore! I’ve been incredibly fortunate to build this alongside my co-founder, Krish N., whose experience in hospitality and steady support have meant a lot throughout this journey. If you’re in Bangalore sometime, do drop by and say hi 🙂 Instagram page and restaurant details are in the comments below.

In 1997, I was co-founder of a radiostation and our investor had set up a meeting with two business associates who had build an "e-shop", a website that was like a shop where you could buy stuff. In other words: an early webshop. We liked the idea but didn't pay much attention to it. When buying something, you had to wait for them to email the confirmation, then you had to transfer the money and then wait for it to arrive. On top of that, they (of course) didn't have much to sell yet. So we left the meeting, saying it was a nice idea but we didn't really think it would ever take off. Fast-forward to now and the whole world is webshops because now it's easy to buy and pay and you can find everything online. When those prerequisite conditions were met, everything took off. Think about that, the next time you hear somebody say that AI "will never work".

Blue Machines AI just put a stamp on what Indian teams can build.Watching it live during the screening, the real flex was consistency. A subjective conversation stayed nuanced and coherent where most systems start wobbling or overreaching. But what I liked the most was Arnab’s closing line on compounding and improving into everyday execution. That’s how serious capability gets recognized.Indian engineering is moving forward on merit, and this felt like India has arrived with substance. #ArnabvsBlueMachinesAI
