The Mother of All Cannabinoids Cannabigerolic acid (CBGA) occupies a unique position in cannabis biochemistry. Although often overshadowed by its more well-known derivatives such as THC, CBD, and CBG, it serves as the foundational precursor from which these major cannabinoids are derived. As the metabolic linchpin of the plant, CBGA plays a central role in shaping the chemical architecture of cannabis. Today Florida's Office of Medical Marijuana Use published a proposed rule that all future licensees will cheer. Once adopted, Rule 64-4.216, Florida Administrative Code will extend the mandatory timelines to receive authorization to cultivate, process, and dispense products. Under the current timeline, new licensees have 60 days to request cultivation authorization, 120 days for processing, and 180 days for dispensing. The proposed permanent rule extends those to 180, 270, and 365 days respectively. If this proposed rule goes into effect before the newest batch of license awards are finalized, this will give breathing room to Florida's newest 22 licensees. They shouldn't relax, though. Each phase of authorization requires extensive documentation, and every variance from a licensee's application representations requires approval. New and prospective licensees should seize this opportunity to review their applications, identify any updates they will need to make, and obtain all required documentation. Sure, we all know that SOPs are needed. Other, long lead-time items that frequently trip up new Florida licensees are less obvious. Think zoning confirmation, wastewater and potable water documentation, or certificates of occupancy for facilities. The list of required items for each authorization is long.
