The SiC industry is in a correction. Utilization rates at ~50% upstream, prices falling on 6-inch substrates, and everyone asking: did we overbuild? My take: the capacity isn't the problem. The lack of differentiation is. When everyone races to add 6-inch capacity for the same automotive power module designs, you get a commodity cycle. That's exactly what's happening. The companies that will emerge stronger are the ones investing in platform transitions -- 200mm, 300mm -- and targeting applications where SiC's thermal and efficiency advantages actually justify the cost premium. EVs are important, but they're not the only story. AI datacenter power, aerospace, defense, industrial drives -- these markets reward performance, not just price. Running a SiC business through a downturn means making hard choices about where to invest R&D dollars. I've been through this before -- we killed a legacy product line to redirect resources toward 150mm and 200mm wafers. It was painful. It also delivered 600% revenue growth. Overcapacity is temporary. Standalone 5G has been a key evolutionary step in telecom standards, yet the actual perception of value among businesses and consumers often hinges on use cases, experience, and outcomes, not acronym milestones. What the article underscores is this: 🔹 SA is important - but only insofar as it enables business value (low latency, slicing, edge compute, XR, etc.) 🔹 Simply deploying SA doesn’t guarantee adoption - it’s what you do with it that matters 🔹 Many operators and enterprises still seek tangible ROI, not technology talk This aligns with what we’re seeing in real networks: • Operators focusing first on experience and monetization, not just stack upgrades. • Use cases like FWA, enterprise services, private networks, and edge AI shaping 5G decisions. • The next battleground being AI-native, programmable networks beyond radio alone At the end of the day, no one celebrates terminology.
