When agents can talk directly to your apps through an MCP server, everything changes. Instead of a human jumping between Salesforce, Airtable, etc... an agent can do it autonomously: Summarize call transcripts for target accounts from Gong Pass those summaries to Inflection to create custom segments Draft a target account campaign based on these custom segments No brittle integrations. No copy-paste workflows. No “please log in and click this button.” The agent just acts — safely, deterministically, and across systems via multiple MCP servers.

Most sellers struggle at capturing metrics M123 They’ll note the challenge, they’ll pitch the solution, but they might not capture the result. Or worse, they fill SFDC with results that sound like marketing copy instead of customer- spoken language. This is where your coaching comes in. CSR (Challenge, Solution, Result) is a nimble storytelling framework suited for coaching metrics When a seller is forced to quantify results with metrics, it help them to ask better questions • C What was broken? • S What did we fix? • R By how much? If you don’t coach your team here, you end up with fluffy “we helped them save time” answers that nobody can use in a business case, let alone a board-level case study. An APAC SaaS leader I am working with has intriguingly flipped this around. He has pushed down and stopped forecasting deals that don’t include key metrics. He wants his teams capturing hard data: 37% reduction in man processing $1.2M in avoided costs 18% faster onboarding 9 weeks TTV 3% increase in NPS Such metrics later power CS case studies, executive-win stories, and ultimately, stronger pipeline credibility. The lesson is simple. If your sellers don’t know how to use CSR with metrics in their deal conversations, you’re robbing yourself of the raw material you’ll need to prove impact later. Coach your team to capture metrics now, tomorrow, the next meet while the customer’s memory is fresh. Otherwise, by the time you want a case study, you’ll be left with nothing but ‘anecdotes’. Here’s where your coaching makes the difference Challenge • What was the customer’s problem in their own words? • How were they measuring that problem before we showed up? • What was the cost of leaving it unsolved? Solution • What exactly did we deliver ..not the product “, but the business fix? • How does the customer describe the solution’s impact? • Who inside their org said, “this changes things by x” Result • Which metrics prove the fix worked? • Who owns those numbers inside the customer’s business? • How do those numbers ladder up to something the Economic Buyer cares about? • If you had to put one result on a slide for a board meeting, which metric would you choose? (Love this one) Final acid test: • Could we take your answers today, strip out the company name, and drop them into a case study tomorrow? If your sellers can’t answer these questions crisply, they aren’t capturing metrics. hiring a seller out of hyperscaler might be the wrong move for your startup. let me be clear: there is certainly great sales talent at these companies. but those teams didn’t win because of sales and sales alone. More often than not, the role these sellers had at aws/azure/gcp is simply a different job than what you are hiring for. pulling a top performer from an industry leader tells you almost nothing about whether they can build pipeline from zero. or sell around product gaps. or handle the volatility that defines your world. that’s a different game entirely. more than a decade in this industry and i’ve watched the same pattern repeat: founders optimize for credibility instead of capability.. and then wonder why nothing moves for 6-12 months. the filter is simple: find environments where sales was the engine... where the company grew because of that function, and against the odds. conditions matter more than titles. this is not always the case, but big-company reps may not have that muscle. not because they’re not talented. but because the job they were rewarded for is not the job you need done. so when founders ask me, “how do i know they can actually do it here?” i give them the same test: - ask where they did their best work. - ask what broke around them and how they still hit number. - ask when they had to build something that didn’t exist yet. you’re looking for scar tissue. that’s how you’re going to hone in on people that have done a similar role.

Aaron Katz has always led with quiet confidence. I first met him back in 2014, when we recruited him out of Salesforce to lead revenue at Elastic. Over the next six years as CRO, he helped grow the business from $5M to $500M, guiding it all the way to an IPO in 2018. In 2021, we uncovered the opportunity to spin out ClickHouse—then a beloved open-source project and the database for people who really know databases. The process wasn’t easy, but, by partnering with Aaron, we were able to get it done. Since then, it’s been remarkable to watch Aaron build ClickHouse into one of the fastest-growing companies in tech, leading an empowered, accountable, world-class team. Love it Mark Phinick - very comprehensive guide for anyone willing to put the work in on BEHALF of the client! Joseph Shuster when he joined our little group called it "identifying the Latent Need" .... thing is to do this, you have to put the work in because it's not visible nor obvious, until it is :-) So this is where I always struggled because as a GTM leader, the management style I always ran was one where we could quickly understand our numbers, but instead of a cadence call with reps, we would spend time workshopping your topics about our clients prospects (which in cadence calls, no one is interested in). Great sales leaders do both and celebrate the latter the most. Second, question for you - I've always hated "sales plays" - they felt artificial, total bulls*$t, and just a way for ops people to look good or bad on a report. It's having a hammer looking for nails. Your approach and the "Latent Need" approach we used mean you apply your platform contextually to the client problem. Lazy organizations use "sales plays" - real ones have a platform strategy they can apply. Keep the posts coming - just love them.
