Saran S. shared thisI'm a co-founder & CTO. On paper, I run eng+infra+sec+product & growth. In practice, I spent this week doing none of those. A few weeks ago my co-founder Jaimal Soni shared an useful routine in Claude Code that reads through my email, Slack, and pretty much everything else, then rolls it all into a single commitment tracker: what I owe people, and what people owe me. I check it twice a day, morning and night. It's become the most honest mirror I have of where my attention actually goes. This week I sorted it by category: Customer: 145 Operations: 94 Sales & Growth: 46 Product & Eng: 14 Read that last line again. The two things in my actual title sat near the bottom. Customer work outweighed product and engineering by roughly ten to one. When I took the CTO and CPO seat, I pictured architecture diagrams and roadmap debates. But as a co-founder at an early-stage company, you're the highest-context person in the room for almost every customer conversation, so that's where you get pulled. Onboarding questions, escalations, the demo that needs a real answer, the deal that hinges on one technical promise. It adds up fast. I've stopped feeling guilty about it. At this stage, being close to customers is the product work. Every one of those 145 threads is quietly telling me what to build next. But I've learned to guard the building time on purpose, because nobody on the calendar will guard it for me. If you're a technical co-founder wondering why you never touch the codebase anymore, you're not doing it wrong. You're doing the job. Just don't forget to schedule the part you fell in love with. Btw, not tokenmaxxing flex, burned 16 billion tokens in last few weeks 😅

The mobile ChatGPT app already has the ability to connect to Codex on your laptop. But remote Linux hosts (e.g. dev boxes) are still not supported...at least officially. This was incredibly annoying since my Mac is usually with me when I'm traveling, doesn't always have stable internet, and will go to sleep after a while. It was impossible to keep threads running for hours or overnight. But given that this functionality theoretically exists, I decided to task Codex itself with figuring out how to reverse engineer the remote connection mechanic to get my dev box to generate a pairing code for my phone. Saran S. liked thisSaran S. liked thisMost of our team doesn't know this story. By March 2023, Robin and I had put $40,000 of our own money into Artie. Not a single customer. Not a single dollar of external funding. No YC. Just two people and an untested product. At that point we would have taken $10 from any company, just to prove that somebody, somewhere, would pay for what we built. Then, a few prospects offered to pay. One told us: "This is really cool. Build us a Salesforce connector and we'll buy." We said no. It happened again. "Build the HubSpot connector and we're in." Then Google Analytics. Then Facebook. Three prospects in our first five months, each one offering to become our first customer. We said no to all of them. The advice every founder gets is to listen to your customers and build what they ask for. We were ignoring it while burning our own savings. But we had a filter, and we still run every request through it today: 1. Does it pull our roadmap forward? Something we'd build anyway, just sooner? Fast yes. 2. Does it derail us from where we want to go? Then no, even when the person asking is holding a check. Every one of those connectors was a derail. We weren't trying to build a slightly better version of what already exists in companies like Fivetran. We were solving a different problem. Saying yes would have bought us a customer and cost us the company we set out to build.

He runs a private office, and I watch a brilliant clinician spend most of his time on prior authorizations and paperwork instead of patients. That's not new. A 2025 Vanderbilt study found registered nurses spend just 34% of their time on direct patient care. The reason is structural. Hospitals run on hundreds of disconnected applications, none sharing a system of record. Care teams become the connective tissue between systems that were never built to work together. Here's where AI in healthcare keeps going wrong: it gets layered on top of that fragmentation instead of fixing it. A copilot on top of hundreds of disconnected apps doesn't close the gaps. It exposes them. The organizations getting this right start with the foundation AI needs to finish work: one operational platform, shared across departments, embedded in the clinical environment. A toy car's radio receiver circuit was hacked and connected to parallel port in PC. Then a software program developed in C++ is used to send commands to the parallel port, which controlled the movement of the car.
