Today, Material Impact's portfolio company Amperesand announced an $80M funding round, one of the largest early-stage financings of 2025 in the industrial energy sector. At its core, Amperesand builds Solid State Transformers. In practice, it is enabling the electrical grid of the future through stability, resiliency, and efficiency - capable of meeting the rapidly changing demands of the AI and electrification age. Back in 2023, we chose to partner with Xora Innovation to spin the company out of Nanyang Technological University Singapore based on five key macro tenants creating powerful tail winds:  1) The grid has lacked true transformatory innovation in decades   2) Diversifying energy sources increases the volatility of supply  3) Aging infrastructure is ill-equipped to deal with today’s peak load demand  4) Growth in AI / Data Centers + EV charging (personal, fleet, industrial etc.) will continue to drive exponential levels of electricity consumption, necessitating even more electrical transmission  5) Efficiency of energy transmission and rapid response to demand / supply imbalances will be key to securing grid stability Two years later, the above rings even truer than when we co-led Amperesand seed round with Xora Innovation (Phil Inagaki, Dickson Thian), alongside TDK Ventures (🌱🤝🌍 Nicolas Sauvage, Sam Hill) and Foothill Ventures (Eric Rosenblum) to create a powerhouse syndicate of early-stage company builders.  Today we are thrilled to welcome an exceptional set of new investors to the Amperesand family: Walden Catalyst Ventures (Young Sohn, Francis Ho), Temasek (Russell Tham), Industry Ventures (Jonathan Roosevelt), Acclimate Ventures (Mark Younger, Bill Younger), SG Growth Capital (Danny Chiam). #SESCO is a fantastic addition to the #grid #reliability platform we launched in September with LFM Capital. We're seeing increased stress on the electric grid from a range of factors--increased loads, higher load variability, and aging infrastructure. Overlaid with long lead times for equipment and a skilled workforce that is aging out, and it becomes obvious we need to arm asset owners with better tools to keep our critical electrical infrastructure running. SESCO is a genuine market leader that has differentiated itself through #customerservice and the #quality of its products. We're excited to now be able to offer their high and medium voltage transformer oil purification and processing solutions alongside ZTZ Services International's transformer monitoring and diagnostic tools.
