A lot of businesses and app developers are probably about to run into issues with Texas's App Store Accountability Act, which was actually passed in 2025 and only recently allowed to go into effect. Sigh. This is exactly the kind of tech stuff I don't like having to deal with. If I'd wanted to be a lawyer, I'd have gone to law school. The gist, as I understand it, is that if your app has users in Texas (and there's no way to avoid that), then it must add additional age verifications and in-app purchase controls. That means new code paths to test that will potentially only apply to (and maybe only be executed by) users in Texas. Nevertheless, my clients will likely have to deal with it, and they'll look to me for advice on 1) whether it applies to them, 2) exactly what they'll need to do, and 3) when I can do it. So I'm going to have to spend some time digging in to the law, the requirements, and tools Apple and Google are providing to handle it. I'm definitely not opposed to stronger protections for children (although I question whether laws like this will help anything), but I don't particularly like having them mandated in detail by politicians. And I especially don't like it happening at the state level; if we're going to get laws like this, I'd rather they were national. I'll follow up with what I learn.

Who wants to team up? AI Utah, AWS Utah, and VC.FM (Venture Capital Podcast) have big things in the work. I’m exploring a small number of partnership opportunities tied to some of the most visible communities and recognition platforms in Utah tech and AI. Right now, the main ones I’m thinking about are: - AI Utah 100: A high-profile recognition platform honoring top AI leaders in Utah. - Founder 100: A high-profile ceremony and networking event recognizing top venture-backed founders and startup leaders. - AWS Utah 100: A recognition platform focused on standout leaders and builders in the AWS and cloud ecosystem in Utah.
