Can AI truly improve health care efficiency without sacrificing patient care? CMS's new WISeR Model is testing that by integrating AI into prior authorizations for select low-value services in traditional Medicare. Sanjay Doddamani, a former CMMI advisor, dives deep into the model's potential to reduce wasteful spending while preserving crucial clinician oversight. "I’d love to see that the model is successful in testing the way AI can reduce unnecessary utilization, that it can slow unnecessary utilization...without slowing down access to vital care and care that is being carefully evaluated for real-world impact," he said but acknowledged there are valid concerns that the model could institute delay tactics. Find out about new guidance from the American Medical Association on #artificialintelligence tool adoption and #governance. With the expansion of AI tools in healthcare, having AI governance and adoption policies in place is important for CMOs and other healthcare leaders. The rapid pace of change in AI tool adoption in healthcare makes these policies essential, according to the AMA. "#Technology is moving very, very quickly. It's moving much faster than we're able to actually implement these tools, so setting up an appropriate governance structure now is more important than it's ever been because we've never seen such quick rates of adoption," Margaret Lozovatsky, MD, FAMIA, chief #medical information officer and vice president of digital health innovations at the AMA, said in the organization's guidance document.
