Job Summary
The Assistant General Manager supports the General Manager in overseeing all aspects of plant operations for an automotive Tier 1 supplier. This role focuses on driving operational excellence, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets are met, while leading cross-functional teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The AGM plays a key role in continuous improvement, team development, and achieving production goals aligned with customer (OEM) expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the General Manager in daily plant operations, including production, quality, engineering, maintenance, and logistics.
- Provide leadership and direction to department managers and supervisors; monitor goals, performance, and key metrics (e.g., efficiency, first-pass yield, downtime).
- Assist with budget preparation, cost control, P&L management, and business planning activities.
- Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 / TS 16949 quality standards, safety regulations (OSHA), and environmental requirements.
- Participate in APQP, launch activities, and continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Kaizen, 8D problem-solving).
- Drive operational KPIs: safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people development.
- Handle staffing, training, and performance management of production teams.
- Support new business quoting, customer relations, and process optimization.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in automotive manufacturing (Tier 1 preferred).
- Strong knowledge of automotive quality systems (IATF 16949), Lean manufacturing, and JIT principles.
- Proven track record in production management, team leadership, and problem-solving.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with MRP/ERP systems.
- Ability to work flexible hours/shifts as needed in a multi-shift environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with injection molding, assembly, stamping, or wiring systems.
- Prior exposure to OEM customer requirements and launch programs.
- Demonstrated success in driving continuous improvement and cost reduction.
