This is a full-time, non-exempt position working under the direction of the Clinic Manager. Funding for this position is from grant programs and is subject to appropriations and will expire at the end of the grant term (November 2027). Work involves assisting in completing the deliverables of the Public Health Infrastructure grant in collaboration with Health Department staff, state and local governmental officials and agencies, school districts, volunteer and community organizations, healthcare providers and the general public. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, improvement of epi surveillance and reporting of health data, utilization of laboratory data to enhance investigation, response, and prevention of epidemiological pathogens and syndromes, work with healthcare system to manage and monitor system capacity, improvement of public health understanding of jurisdictional communities with respect to respiratory pathogens and syndrome risk, and community education. Must be willing to adopt and exhibit the City of Brownwood “I SERVE” Core Values.

Examples of Duties

  • Navigate individuals with fall risk and provide education and preventative measures to reduce risk.
  • Develops methods for understanding jurisdictional communities regarding population and high-risk populations and vulnerable groups.
  • Communicates with program staff at Region and State levels for guidance and compliance.
  • Assists with coordination with local healthcare and healthcare coalitions and systems.
  • Designs informatic representations of data related to vulnerable groups, epidemiological data, and laboratory data.
  • Conducts community relations efforts with at-risk populations to minimize impacts of respiratory pathogens and syndromes.
  • Develops community education strategies to minimize public health impacts.
  • Participates in training opportunities to meet learning needs in this position which may require overnight travel.
  • Responds in emergency situations which may include a temporarily irregular work schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Experience in community health, program management, and community relations is preferred.

  • Valid Texas Driver License required.
  • Must complete IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800 training and within six months of employment.
  • Complete Community Health Worker Training
  • Complete Fall Risk training
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with many diverse people, including children and teenagers, and varying ethnic and cultural groups.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages and ability to apply such concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to learn and use program specific web-based software/programs.
  • Knowledge of public health emergency preparedness and response activities; knowledge of epidemiological principles.
  • Ability to design and execute evaluation processes.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment; proficient with/in current Windows operating system software; current Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Apps; PDF design programs; graphic design programs.

Supplemental Information

Works indoors with occasional work outdoors. Ability to walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary. May be exposed to electrical, mechanical or chemical hazards when operating/ maintaining office equipment and potentials risk of exposure to communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens. May be required to lift up to 30 pounds.

Frequent contact with employees, healthcare providers and staff, City and State Officials and community members in person and by telephone.
