Role Description The Deputy Director is a full-time, on-site role based in Plymouth, NC, supporting the Director in managing departmental operations and strategic initiatives. This position assists with planning, implementing, and monitoring programs, policies, and services to ensure alignment with county goals and regulatory requirements. Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising staff, coordinating projects, preparing reports and presentations, and analyzing data to support decision-making. The Deputy Director collaborates with internal teams, elected officials, community partners, and external agencies to address service needs and improve processes. The role also involves budget support, performance evaluation, problem-solving on complex operational issues, and representing the department in meetings and public forums when needed.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience, including mentoring staff, managing teams, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Strong skills in organizational administration, such as project coordination, policy implementation, and operational process improvement.
- Proficiency in communication skills, including clear written reports, effective presentations, and professional interaction with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience working in or with local government, public administration, or a comparable regulated environment is highly beneficial.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, and policies while maintaining compliance and ethical standards.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to use data to inform decisions and evaluate program outcomes.
- Comfort with common office technologies and software, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, and email platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Political Science, or a related field; an advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful service delivery to all community members.
- Ability to work on-site in Plymouth, NC, with occasional evening or weekend commitments as departmental needs require.
