Financial Controller

Controller:

A client of ours is looking for a highly skilled and experienced CPA to manage and oversee the accounting operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, and tax compliance, specifically in a construction environment. The ideal candidate will bring 7-10 years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a construction-focused role. The candidate should be detail-oriented, proactive, and possess a deep understanding of construction accounting practices, including job costing, revenue recognition, contract management, and financial analysis.

Job Responsibilities:

• Manage financial reporting and analysis for multiple construction projects, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards.
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and regulations (GAAP, tax, and financial).
• Manage job costing, progress billing, and contract management, ensuring proper allocation of costs to the appropriate accounts.
• Coordinate with project managers to prepare job cost reports, track project budgets, costs, forecasts, assess percent complete calculations and revenue recognition.
• Review and manage construction-related contracts, change orders, and subcontracts.
• Assist with annual audits and tax filing preparations.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to provide financial insights for strategic decision-making.
• Monitor cash flow and work closely with the finance team to optimize working capital.
• Ensure timely filing of tax returns and other statutory requirements.

Job Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s degree or CPA certification preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with at least 4 years in a construction accounting environment preferred.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting practices, including job costing, progress billing, and financial analysis.
• Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (experience with construction-specific software a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
• A proactive mindset and the ability to think strategically and contribute to the company’s growth.
• Experience with construction project management software.
• Experience in managing audits and working with external auditors.
• Strong understanding of tax compliance and regulations specific to the construction industry.
