Financial Controller

Our client is a profitable, private equity-backed services business in the lower middle market. The company is founder-transitioned, growing organically and through add-on acquisitions, and early in its hold period. The sponsor is investing in finance infrastructure now, and this Controller hire is central to that plan. You will own the accounting function, tighten the close, strengthen reporting, and build the financial operating rhythm the CFO, sponsor, lenders, and board can rely on.

What you’ll do

• Month-end close with a focus on improving the close speed and reporting quality
• Monthly reporting package, including variance analysis, KPIs, and budget vs. Actuals
• 13-week cash flow forecast
• Lender reporting and covenant compliance
• Sponsor reporting, board materials, and diligence support
• Integration of acquired businesses
• Annual audit and QofE readiness
• Building and mentoring a small accounting team as the platform scales

What we’re looking for

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Prior Controller or Assistant Controller ownership
• Strong GAAP fundamentals
• CPA strongly preferred
• PE-backed, transaction-heavy, audit, diligence, or integration experience
• Systems mindset; ERP implementation or migration experience is a plus
• Clear, direct communication with CFO, sponsor, lenders, and board-level stakeholders
