Fund Controller
Overview
We are seeking a Fund Controller to oversee the financial, operational, and valuation functions for a ~$3B private equity platform. This individual will manage the fund accounting process, coordinate with third-party administrators, lead quarterly valuation cycles, and serve as a key member of the Valuations Committee. The role offers broad visibility across the firm and frequent interaction with investment professionals, senior leadership, and external providers.
Key Responsibilities
Fund Accounting, Reporting & Oversight
- Lead the accounting and financial reporting process for multiple private equity funds, co-investment vehicles, and related entities.
- Manage the relationship with the fund administrator, reviewing NAV packages, capital account statements, fee calculations, waterfall schedules, and financial statements.
- Oversee quarterly and annual close timelines, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery of all reporting.
- Coordinate capital activity, including capital calls, distributions, and investor notices; review supporting calculations and documentation.
- Support investor reporting, including quarterly reports, ad hoc requests, DDQs, and fundraising materials.
- Ensure compliance with fund governing documents, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
Valuations Leadership
- Lead the quarterly valuation process for portfolio companies in partnership with the investment team.
- Review valuation models, support analyses (DCF, market comps, trading multiples), and assess inputs for reasonableness.
- Prepare materials for the Valuations Committee and present findings, assumptions, and key drivers.
- Serve as a member of the Valuations Committee, contributing independent oversight and ensuring adherence to valuation policies and fair value standards (ASC 820).
- Coordinate with external valuation firms, auditors, and administrators to ensure aligned methodologies and audit-ready documentation.
Audit, Compliance & Governance
- Oversee annual audits, including managing requests, reviewing supporting schedules, and coordinating with auditors and administrators.
- Maintain internal controls, documentation standards, and accounting policies across funds and vehicles.
- Support regulatory filings, including Form PF, ADV, and other reporting prepared with compliance and external partners.
Process, Systems & Operational Improvement
- Drive efficiency by enhancing processes, reporting packages, and reconciliation workflows.
- Improve data quality across internal systems and the fund administrator’s platform.
- Contribute to systems implementations, upgrades, and automation initiatives across finance and operations.
Qualifications
- 6–12+ years of relevant experience across private equity fund accounting, administration, or audit (Big 4 asset management experience strongly preferred).
- Strong understanding of private equity fund structures, fee mechanics, allocations, waterfalls, and fair value measurement.
- Experience leading or reviewing valuations under ASC 820; comfort engaging with valuation specialists and investment teams.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work closely with senior leaders and present to committees.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- CPA preferred; strong technical accounting background a plus.
- Ability to build, refine, and scale processes for a growing platform.
Compensation eligible up to 500k total compensation including carried interest allocation.
