Inpatient Coder


Pay: $34-$38/hr

Schedule: Full-Time | 40 Hours/Week

Duration: 6-Month Contract

Location: 100% Remote


About the Opportunity

A leading healthcare organization is seeking experienced Inpatient Coders to support its Health Information Management team. This team is actively working to reduce coding backlogs and is looking for coders who can immediately contribute with minimal training.

This position will focus exclusively on acute care inpatient coding and offers the opportunity to work with a highly collaborative coding leadership team while supporting accurate reimbursement, quality reporting, and regulatory compliance initiatives.


Location Requirements

Due to client and payroll restrictions, candidates must reside in one of the following approved or reviewable states:


Approved States: Kentucky, Indiana, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, Wisconsin

Candidates residing outside of these states are not eligible for consideration at this time.


Responsibilities

  • Review and assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for acute inpatient encounters
  • Ensure coding accuracy and compliance with Official Coding Guidelines and Coding Clinic updates
  • Analyze clinical documentation to determine appropriate MS-DRG assignment
  • Maintain productivity and quality standards while meeting coding deadlines
  • Collaborate with CDI, providers, and revenue cycle teams when necessary
  • Support efforts to reduce coding backlogs and improve turnaround times


Schedule

  • Monday-Friday
  • Flexible hours between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM EST
  • 40 hours per week
  • No weekends or overtime expected


Requirements

  • 2+ years of recent acute care inpatient coding experience
  • Active CCS, RHIT, or RHIA certification required
  • Associate degree required
  • Epic experience required
  • Solventum 360 (3M) experience required
  • Computer Assisted Coding (CAC) experience required
  • Strong understanding of MS-DRG assignment and inpatient coding guidelines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision


Preferred Qualifications

  • Complex surgical coding experience
  • Cardiac surgery coding experience
  • Spine surgery coding experience
  • Experience working within large hospital systems
  • Additional encoder or EHR experience


Productivity Expectations

  • Approximately 2.5 charts per hour
  • Strong focus on coding accuracy and quality
