Senior Accountant – Foundation Accounting

Position Overview

A well-established private foundation is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the accounting and financial operations of multiple charitable entities and community programs. This role will oversee financial reporting, month-end close, audit coordination, tax support, cash management, and accounting operations across multiple legal entities.

Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities across multiple legal entities
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare and post journal entries and accruals
• Prepare financial statements and management reporting
• Review general ledger activity and account reconciliations

Foundation & Operational Accounting

• Track and reconcile fundraising and donation activity
• Monitor cash activity and assist with treasury functions
• Prepare recurring financial reviews and variance analyses
• Ensure proper coding and accounting across multiple entities

Audit & Tax

• Coordinate annual financial statement audits
• Support preparation of federal and state tax filings
• Work closely with external auditors and tax advisors
• Prepare supporting schedules and respond to audit requests

Process Improvement

• Maintain strong internal controls
• Improve accounting processes and reporting workflows
• Support accounting system enhancements and automation initiatives
• Assist with special projects as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA or Master's in Accounting preferred
• 3–6 years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting
• Experience supporting audits and tax filings
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with ERP/accounting systems
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Excellent communication and relationship management abilities
• Interest in leveraging technology and AI tools within accounting
