Title:
Senior Accountant – Foundation Accounting
Position Overview
A well-established private foundation is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the accounting and financial operations of multiple charitable entities and community programs. This role will oversee financial reporting, month-end close, audit coordination, tax support, cash management, and accounting operations across multiple legal entities.
This is an excellent opportunity for a public accounting professional or senior accountant looking to transition into a mission-driven organization while maintaining exposure to complex accounting, reporting, and financial operations.
Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Manage day-to-day accounting activities across multiple legal entities
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare and post journal entries and accruals
- Prepare financial statements and management reporting
- Review general ledger activity and account reconciliations
Foundation & Operational Accounting
- Track and reconcile fundraising and donation activity
- Monitor cash activity and assist with treasury functions
- Prepare recurring financial reviews and variance analyses
- Ensure proper coding and accounting across multiple entities
Audit & Tax
- Coordinate annual financial statement audits
- Support preparation of federal and state tax filings
- Work closely with external auditors and tax advisors
- Prepare supporting schedules and respond to audit requests
Process Improvement
- Maintain strong internal controls
- Improve accounting processes and reporting workflows
- Support accounting system enhancements and automation initiatives
- Assist with special projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA or Master's in Accounting preferred
- 3–6 years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting
- Experience supporting audits and tax filings
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and relationship management abilities
- Interest in leveraging technology and AI tools within accounting
