Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Upwork & Freelance Marketplace Business Development Specialist to help grow our software development business by acquiring new projects through Upwork and other freelance marketplaces.
This role is ideal for an individual or agency/team with a proven track record of winning software development projects on behalf of third-party development companies. Success in this position will be measured by consistently identifying qualified opportunities, preparing compelling proposals, communicating with prospective clients, and helping convert conversations into signed development projects.
You will work directly with our U.S. managing partner to identify opportunities, develop proposal strategies, manage client communications, and help schedule discovery calls with qualified prospects. While Upwork will be the primary focus, experience with other freelance marketplaces is highly desirable.
This is a results-driven role with significant long-term growth potential for the right candidate. We are looking for someone who understands how to position a software development team, identify high-value opportunities, and consistently generate new business.
Compensation
We offer a competitive performance-based compensation structure designed to reward successful client acquisition.
The compensation package includes:
$500/month base compensation for ongoing marketplace research, opportunity identification, proposal development, and business development activities.
10% commission on the initial project value for successfully acquired projects resulting from your efforts.
For example, if you help secure a $10,000 software development project, you would receive a $1,000 commission in addition to the monthly base compensation.
We are open to discussing alternative structures for candidates or agencies with a proven history of consistently generating software development projects through Upwork or other freelance marketplaces.
Qualifications
Demonstrated success acquiring projects through Upwork and/or other freelance marketplaces.
Experience writing winning proposals for software development, AI, web development, mobile app development, or related technology services.
Strong written English communication skills.
Ability to qualify opportunities and communicate effectively with prospective clients.
Understanding of custom software development, SaaS platforms, AI solutions, web applications, and mobile app development.
Experience working with or representing software development agencies is highly preferred.
Familiarity with Upwork algorithms, bidding strategies, client communication, and profile optimization.
Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
U.S.-based candidates are preferred, although exceptional international candidates will also be considered.
