About the role

The Vice President of Human Resources leads the organization's employee relations strategy, serving as the senior-most authority on workplace conduct, conflict resolution, investigations, and employment compliance. This role is both a strategic partner to executive leadership and a hands-on leader who sets the standard for how the organization handles its most sensitive people matters — fairly, consistently, and in alignment with company values and applicable law.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and own the enterprise ER strategy, including policies, investigation protocols, documentation standards, and case management processes.
  • Serve as the final escalation point for high-risk, complex, or executive-level ER matters including terminations, separations, and legal disputes.
  • Oversee the full investigation lifecycle — intake, planning, interviews, findings, remediation — ensuring fairness and legal sufficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with Legal and outside counsel on matters with litigation, regulatory, or reputational exposure.
  • Advise executives and senior managers on performance management, progressive discipline, and involuntary separations.
  • Design and deliver ER training for managers, covering topics such as respectful workplace conduct, documentation, and early conflict intervention.
  • Monitor ER case trends and produce regular reporting to CPO, identifying patterns and recommending systemic interventions.
  • Maintain and update the employee handbook, code of conduct, and all ER-related policies to reflect legal and cultural changes.
  • Lead workplace accommodation processes, including ADA, religious accommodations, and leave-related matters in partnership with Benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Must have experience in the Insurance industry
  • 8+ years of HR experience with a minimum of 4 years focused specifically on employee relations, labor relations, or employment compliance.
  • Deep expertise conducting and overseeing complex workplace investigations, including harassment, discrimination, and retaliation matters.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state employment law (Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA, and state equivalents).
  • Experience navigating high-stakes employment situations — reductions in force, executive terminations, EEOC charges, or arbitration.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain neutrality and confidentiality while building trust with employees at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills & exceptional written communication skills — investigation reports, policy documents, and executive briefings.
