Union workers — here is a question worth asking about your disability benefits. Many employer and union disability plans are designed to replace only a portion of your income if an illness or injury prevents you from working. But have you ever actually calculated what that would look like for your family? Would the benefit be enough to live on? Would your financial plan continue progressing the same way? Could you still pay the bills without pulling from savings? These are important questions, especially if you are the primary income earner in your household. If the answer is “no” to any of them, it may be worth having a conversation about building a plan that helps turn those answers into “yes.”

A fresh look at an existing disability plan can uncover things like: Outdated income assumptions Missed future increase opportunities Over-reliance on group coverage Definitions that may not align with current roles Not every review leads to a change. But every review should lead to greater clarity. And clarity builds confidence—for both you and your client.

With tax season in full swing, an often overlooked aspect is disability claims for individuals who have loved ones with disabilities who rely on them financially. The refunds can often provide significant financial ease. As a parent of a special needs child — and a tax practitioner — I've put together an easy guide based on my own experience, covering: ✅ Who qualifies, and the ITR-DD form you'll need ✅ What SARS actually lets you claim for — special needs school fees, transport, a carer's salary, assistive devices, home modifications, and more ✅ How much you can actually expect back (and why it's not always a flat 33.3%) ✅ Practical tips to make filing — and any SARS audit — painless Grab the full guide below 👇 and feel free to share it with anyone who might need it. This is general guidance — your specific numbers will depend on your own return, so reach out if you'd like help getting your disability claim audit-ready before you file. #TaxSeason2026 #SARS #DisabilityTaxCredit #SouthAfricanTax

📢 Did you know that most group Long-Term Disability policies only cover 50%-60% of income? ▶️ Most group disability policies cap coverage at 50-60% of your base salary. 👉🏻 What would your life look like if your monthly cash flow were cut in half? ▶️ If your employer pays the premiums for the coverage, your benefits are taxed as income 👉🏻 A $10K benefit becomes $7K ▶️ Group policies generally don’t replace income received through bonuses or variable compensation 👉🏻 Continue with the math reality...if you make $500K in total compensation (salary plus bonus), could your family survive on just $7K per month versus current $30K post-tax?!? 💪🏻 In many cases, an individual plan only costs from 1-3% of your income. Let's connect to talk about a plan that works with your group coverage. By closing the income gap, you’ll have one less thing to worry about when it comes to protecting your family’s financial future.

❓What if you qualified for thousands of dollars... and didn't know it? Many Canadian families may be eligible for valuable government support through the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP)—but many never find out because they simply don't ask. The question isn't whether an RDSP is a good idea. The question is: Have you checked if you or someone you love qualifies? A 15-minute conversation could help you discover opportunities that could make a meaningful difference for the future. If you'd like to learn more about RDSP eligibility and how it works, I'm happy to have a conversation. 📞 Ranvir Birl 604-418-6200 #RDSP #FinancialLiteracy #DisabilitySupport #CanadianFamilies #FinancialPlanning #GovernmentBenefits #FuturePlanning

July is Disability Pride Month. And there is a financial planning conversation that doesn't get nearly enough attention. People living with disabilities — and the families who support them — face financial complexity that most planning frameworks simply weren't built for. Special needs trusts. ABLE accounts. Government benefit coordination. Caregiver cost planning. Long-term care considerations that begin earlier than most people expect. These aren't edge cases. They are real planning needs for millions of families — and they require an advisor who understands both the financial mechanics and the human weight of the decisions involved. What I've seen consistently is this: The families who navigate this well aren't the ones with the most resources. They're the ones who found the right guidance early — before a crisis forced the conversation. Planning in this space is an act of love as much as it is an act of strategy. This month, I want to ask — Is there a financial planning gap you've encountered — for yourself or someone you love — that felt overlooked or poorly addressed? I'd like to hear what others have experienced. #DisabilityPrideMonth #FinancialPlanning #InclusiveAdvice #SpecialNeedsPlanning #ThomasBridgmanFA Investing involves risk.
