It’s sad seeing founders like Michael struggle to land a job when they need one. Companies hire for specialists and people like him don’t fit in a box. But someone who’s spent 15 years building and shipping is exactly who you want when things get hard. Startups say they want owners then screen out everyone who’s actually owned something.
That’s the problem he’s just base applying to 100s of companies. If he applied to 1-5, and did it thoughtfully and invested in networking his way in, used his founder skills, etc. it likely would work. You can’t be automating this stuff.
Traditional knowledge work is a contracting market (and this trend will continue). More and more people will learn it’s safer and better to work for themselves than get a salary job.
This is sad truth. If you’re a founder you’re (mostly) unemployable.
Andrea Bosoni it is sad to see as he is clearly talented and qualified... but you're a marketer, how would you approach this challenge if you were in his shoes?
It's true. Most want task managers.
Thanks for the exposure. LinkedIn is def a dead end. Was an experiment, but my advice is not to be discouraged, try different methods, and think outside the box. I don't need a job ASAP, but maybe within the next 3-4 months. If I needed one right now, I'd prob move to SF or find proximity to where your ideal career is located
linkedin as a way to find jobs is dead
He's going to be doing more than just submitting applications, right? If he's just submitting applications then I'm not surprised by the result.
I’m unhirable for this exact reason. Definitely not how I thought things would play out, but what can you do? 🤷 Gotta keep pushing, and build your own road. Right or wrong, that’s just how it is.
