But the people deploying, maintaining, and troubleshooting these networks? We're still treating them like they're interchangeable. AT&T just bought $23 billion in spectrum. T-Mobile hit nationwide 5G Advanced. Verizon is scaling fixed wireless past 5 million subs. Every one of those milestones requires boots on the ground. Yet the industry wonders why projects slip timelines. You can't build a 2026 network with a 2016 talent strategy. We’ve made major advances in wireless. 5G. Wi-Fi. Private networks. Coverage is expanding. Speeds are increasing. Capacity is evolving. But there’s a gap we don’t talk about enough. We design and deploy these systems to meet a standard… but we don’t always operate them to sustain that standard. Over time, things shift: Environments change. Demand increases. Configurations drift. Yet another SILOED connectivity solution. And our friends Ericsson of course are promoting their #DOT solution, but what they miss is the entire ecosystem would be more robust, resilient, and thriving if 5G #laptops worked out of the box in all #PrivateCellularNetworks as well as Macro and Indoor NH environments. "One objection that people have raised is: having a large number of 5G laptops in one location might cause a lot of stress on the local wireless network. Everyone's talking about the future of 5G. Nobody's talking about who's going to maintain it. T-Mobile is rolling out 5G Advanced features nationwide. AT&T is about to deploy 50 MHz of new spectrum across 400+ markets. Verizon is pushing past 5 million fixed wireless subs. Comcast and Charter Communications just signed MVNO deals to launch business wireless this year. That's four major players scaling simultaneously. Every one of them needs DAS engineers, RAN techs, NOC operators, program managers, and C&I crews — right now. But here's the disconnect. Budgets keep going to infrastructure. Training programs keep getting cut. And experienced people keep leaving for cloud and IT roles that pay more and burn them out less. We don't have a technology problem in wireless. We have a priorities problem. The carriers that figure this out first won't just build the best networks — they'll keep them running. Am I wrong? The wireless industry spends billions acquiring spectrum. It spends almost nothing developing the people who deploy it. Think about what happened in the last 12 months alone. AT&T committed $23 billion for EchoStar's spectrum. T-Mobile became the first carrier to hit nationwide 5G Advanced. Verizon dropped $20 billion on Frontier to fuel fiber-to-5G convergence. Google and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are embedding themselves deeper into the network layer every quarter. That's tens of billions of dollars flowing into infrastructure and technology. Now ask yourself — where's the equivalent investment in workforce development? In training programs for Open RAN? In pipelines for the next generation of DAS designers, RAN engineers, and NOC operators? It doesn't exist at the same scale. Not even close. We keep building more complex networks and expecting the same talent pool to figure it out on their own. Cloud-native architectures. Disaggregated RAN. AI-driven optimization. Multi-vendor integration. These aren't things you learn on a truck roll. The carriers and integrators who start treating workforce development as infrastructure — not overhead — are the ones who will actually deliver on what they're promising.
