An exciting development that will cement in place the electric vehicle as a replacement for its ICE driven predecessors, and home battery systems that reduce reliance on network infrastructure to power our homes. Mint Innovation have led in development of cost effective, low power, recovery of chemicals from e-waste, so are perfectly positioned to set up Linca to make a technological step change for battery recycling technology. Getting buy-in from JLR with investment from the UK Government shows a clear route to market. Smart chemistry and great engineering will change the way we power our lives. Watch this space to follow developments.
Thrilled to share that Motion Capital has spun out battery recycling innovator Linca from Mint Innovation, and led a $5m seed round into the new business. Linca is commercialising a modular, low-cost technology that recovers battery-grade lithium, cobalt and nickel from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries. Linca's technology enables recycling facilities with significantly lower CapEx than the competition. This means this refining can happen locally at a scale that matches existing feedstock supply. The new business is now led full-time by Dr Ollie Crush, Mint's co-founder and Chief Science Officer, now Linca CEO. Linca has additionally secured a £8.1m UK Government grant alongside JLR Jaguar Land Rover and WMG, University of Warwick This is our twelfth investment out of Motion Capital Fund I. Earlier this week, our Director of Business Development, Dominic Brown, took the stage at Fastmarkets Global Lithium, Battery & Critical Materials 2026. 🔋 Dominic joined industry leaders for discussions on: Battery Recycling in North America: Feedstock, Financing, the Race to Scale, and collaborating with government agencies — diving into feedstock availability, economics, and whether battery recycling can become a secure, scalable pillar of the North American battery materials supply chain. Our answer: yes. And we're building it. #BatteryRecycling #CriticalMinerals #EV #SupplyChain

Good piece in the NBR - National Business Review today looking behind this morning's announcement. The timing reflects where the market's heading. As Matt Bedingfield told journalist Fiona Rotherham, critical minerals recovery has hit a moment where sovereign supply chain pressure, AI-driven copper demand and US industrial policy are all converging at once. For Mint, the technology works, the challenge ahead is building the manufacturing discipline to make it repeatable and efficient at scale. At the same time, Mint recognised that battery recycling had its own exciting growth trajectory. As Dr Ollie Crush described it, the business had reached a "fork in the road": continue developing it internally, or establish Linca as an independent company with the focus and investment to accelerate its progress. Mint chose the latter — Linca now stands alone, with its first seed round closed and led by Motion Capital, alongside Icehouse Ventures, K1W1, Aspire NZ Seed Fund (Aspire), Booster NZ and Enterprise Angels Next up for Linca: a demo-scale plant in the UK. For Mint, the move sharpens the focus back to our core: recovering gold, copper and silver from printed circuit boards and building resilient domestic critical minerals supply chains. Mine closure is not the end of the story! It is the start of a new value-creation problem (and opportunity). I just came across the Post-Mining Innovation Ecosystem LinkedIn page, an educational initiative that is explicitly positioning post-mining areas as future technology parks, reclamation areas, and spaces for new companies — built through entrepreneurship and matchmaking between researchers, industry leads, investors, students, SMEs/startups, universities, and communities. What you will find on the page: ✅ Practical framing: society needs minerals, so the question becomes how we mine and how we regenerate afterwards (responsible sourcing + greener technologies). ✅ Strong post-mining emphasis: governance, legacy stewardship, and real-world tools (e.g., their updates referencing REMINDNET working group themes). 😍 A growing community already If you work with mine closure, reclamation, ESG risk, regional transition, circular economy, or investment into reuse cases, this page is worth following. Question to the community: What is the single biggest bottleneck in post-mining transformation today: governance, finance, skills, data, regulation, or social acceptance? #PostMining #MineClosure #MiningLegacies #Reclamation #CircularEconomy #ResponsibleSourcing #SustainableMining #Innovation #ESG #RawMaterials
