US Smart TV ad spend is projected to reach $38 billion in 2026, up nearly 14% year-over-year. Nearly 70% of CTV advertisers plan to increase budgets this year by an average of 17%, and ad buying through Smart TV manufacturers has more than doubled in a single year. The supply side of that equation is still catching up. Creators with established YouTube libraries are sitting on content that qualifies for premium TV ad rates today, with nothing new to produce.

Yesterday represented seminal moment for SME advertising and broadcasters. Channel 4, Sky and ITV joined forces and officially opened our doors to SME businesses across the UK. From today they are now able to access the power of TV on a self serve basis through Comcast's Universal Ads. According to Probability 2, a study by Ebiquity plc, WPP and Gain Theory which looked ROI driven across +£1.8bn of media investment, TV delivered 55% of of all profitability, yet only received 44% of budgets. While impressive, that only tells a fraction of the story due to the majority of the data coming from larger business. For SMEs the lion share of ad investment is spent on less profitable media channels (social, search, digital display etc), meaning until now failed to capatlise on the most effective media channel. Understandably they have prioritised ease of access over optimal effectiveness due the barrier of entry to TV. That changed yesterday. TV = Profit! #TV #Profit 💚 📺 🚀

Connected TV advertising in 2026 is seeing a significant shift toward interactive formats, particularly the use of QR codes that drive immediate engagement. This allows businesses to directly connect big-screen awareness with mobile actions, offering clearer performance measurement beyond just views. To implement this, integrate QR codes into your CTV ads that link directly to a specific landing page or special offer.

By 2027, CTV ad spending is expected to surpass linear TV in the US for the first time. Yet many brands are still planning their TV budgets as if it were 2015. Here's the challenge. With linear TV, you buy reach. To estimate who saw your ad, you rely on old school panels and modeled measurement to understand its impact. CTV changes the equation. Whether it's Amazon Fire TV, Netflix, Prime Video, or YouTube, you can target audiences based on real signals like purchase behavior, household characteristics, interests, or category affinity. More importantly, you can measure outcomes, optimize campaigns in real time, and understand the business impact of your investment. For most consumer brands, that's a fundamentally better way to think about TV investment. There are, of course, exceptions. If you're Coca-Cola sponsoring the World Cup Final, nothing beats linear TV for delivering simultaneous mass reach. But for most advertisers, the question is no longer whether to invest in CTV. It's whether they're adapting their media strategy as fast as consumer behavior has already changed.

Interesting move from some of the biggest advertisers in the traditional TV space. We see fantastic results on TV for our clients via AdSmart from Sky or CTV with our friends at StackAdapt, and while I do believe that YouTube is one of the greatest opportunities in this space, this move seems to be a good step in the direction to reach those who might not have made the YouTube pivot. That being said, I'm still a sucker for the big TV moment creatively (just not the TVC crops for social) - so I'm also hoping this doesn't lead to a degradation in the level of creativity we see on our big 16:9 screens... #Advertising #DigitalMarketing #TVAdvertising
