Co-founder of Fomogo: Breaking the IIT bias with AI

This title was summarized by AI from the post below.

As a co-founder of Fomogo - Hire Fast with AI, I’ve lived this problem from both sides. The founders I worked with also carried the IIT bias - but they gave me a chance as a tier 2 college grad, and I’m grateful I could prove them right. I now see why early teams default to IITs: speed, density, and lower search costs. But the deeper truth is - talent exists everywhere, discovery is broken. At Fomogo, we’re fixing this: surfacing the top 1% through skill-first signals, not college tags. (with Abhisek Agarwal)

I finally get why some founders hire only from IITs. 😶🌫️ I am from BITS. For the longest time I pushed back. Talent is everywhere. College should not define you. Then I hired for Early Stage Teams. Reality check. Density matters. IITs are a high-signal cluster. You get a tight pool with a high hit rate. Outside that pool there are thousands of colleges, millions of resumes, and SOOO many paths. The search cost explodes. Time is the enemy. Founders are not chasing a logo. They are buying focus. Fewer campuses. Faster loops. Lower ops overhead. Do I still believe college should not be a filter? Yes. Do I understand why early teams default to IITs? Also yes. The gap is real. We need better ways to surface top 1 percent talent beyond IITs. Skill-first trials. Public portfolios. Proof-of-work signals. Faster discovery. If you are building this, let’s talk! 🎯 (Michelle and I, still trying to make sense of the hiring pipeline 😴)

Yes, pedigree shouldn't be the only indicator when hiring the best-fit talent

Very well appreciated thought Hamza Ghufran
