Surgical performance starts long before the first stitch. It begins with the geometry of the needle itself, how the point enters tissue, how the body sits in the needle holder, and how the coating helps the needle keep its edge through repeated passes. Bone density is one of the factors that shapes how a case is approached from the beginning. Different bone qualities respond differently during placement and healing. They influence stability, surgical technique, and loading strategy. Evaluating density early allows for more precise planning. It is not background information. It is a variable that defines how the treatment should proceed.

In FAST, free fluid follows the anatomical space rather than maintaining a perfectly round shape. Angular, crescentic, or tapering fluid that changes contour during the sweep favors true free fluid. A round or tubular dark structure may instead represent fluid-filled bowel, a vessel, or another cystic mimic. Confirm suspicious findings in multiple planes and interpret them within the clinical context.
