Day 55 of retirement and I’ve learned a few things! 🤯 ✔️ Time still moves fast. I can’t fit in everything I want to do. 🏃♀️ ✔️ Shifting to “no more paycheck” was a bigger mental adjustment than I expected 💵 ✔️ Spending more time with friends and family has been a huge boost to my overall mental health 🧠 ✔️ Saying “yes” to fewer things makes the “yeses” more meaningful 🤩 ✔️ I’m still a fan of the calendar—just with more lunch dates, hikes and plane tickets/adventures 📅 ✈️ Next week is the first Women’s Retirement Security Day, a new national day of action focused on helping women feel more confident about retirement. As a recent retiree, this day hits close to home. 🎯 After years consulting on 401(k) plans, I’ve met many women juggling careers and caregiving who would ask, “Is it too late for me to catch up?” It almost never was—but that question says a lot about how easy it is to put retirement security on the back burner. 👈 In honor of the day, here’s a small nudge from a newly retired 401(k) consultant: 1. If you’re still working, take 10 minutes next week to check your contribution rate and your asset allocation. Future‑you will be glad you did. ⏳ 2. If you work with retirement plans, consider a quick, encouraging outreach to the women you serve 3. Caregiving and career choices are part of the financial picture. Build retirement planning around your real life, including breaks, part‑time work, and longevity.
Still working the retirement game, even in retirement. Once it's in your blood there's no escaping it! Such great advice, Julie. Per usual! I hope (know) you're enjoying this stage in life!
Julie Graham you certainly have great perspective from both sides. I hope you continue to provide feedback to keep all of us honest. Retirement is a mindset, not a mandate.
Julie Graham thanks for the reflection. In our experience, saying no is one of the skills many need to develop in retirement!
Can you help with an RFP? Lol, just kidding, we miss you!
Happy Retirement!
LOVE THIS update and the advice - please ping me if you find yourself in MD!
Great advice Julie Graham. We need your wisdom!
Congrats on retirement! I’m on Day 10… an amateur still 😊
goodness - still counting days? Nice nudges...
Boy this hits home. Just finished my 6 month date. I relate to everything you said. It is and was a big mental shift for me. And I feel like I'm more busy now but it's my time not work time. I am not sure how I got things done around the house because it still feels like I'm not getting things done as quick as I like. I miss my work family as they were fun and very professional in their jobs. I can schedule things a little easier with friends or trips. And like you I have a schedule I update with things I want to do, projects etc. AI takes care of that for me. Easy to update and save.
