Over twenty years ago, I sat in lecture theatres like this as a student at the University of Nuremberg. This week, I returned to speak about leadership, resilience and growth. It was one of those moments that made me pause and reflect. What struck me most wasn't how much had changed. It was how much the core questions remain the same: • How do we navigate our biggest challenges? • How do we break through to the next level? • How do we stay effective when the world around us becomes increasingly complex? Over the last four months, I've been working and travelling across Europe. Along the way, I've had conversations with leaders, teams, students and academics. Different industries. Different countries. Different life stages. Yet the same pattern keeps emerging: Most people don't need to work harder. They need a bigger playing field on the inside. Pressure doesn't just test our skills. It reveals our assumptions, habits and limitations. It reveals the operating system we rely on when things become difficult. The leaders who continue to grow are often those who learn to expand that inner capacity first. Only then can they create new possibilities on the outside. As the Australian financial year begins, many leaders and teams will be setting goals, plans and priorities. Perhaps an equally important question is: Who are we being asked to become in order to create what we want to achieve? I'm looking forward to returning to Australia soon and continuing that conversation with leaders and teams navigating growth, change and complexity.
