I'm a firm believer is somebody has to be the spark that lights a fire. Stacy was a spark and we lit the fire. November of 2021, I was meeting a coworker after work. He was going through a hard time and I like to say that love saved my life because I gave him a hug and that's when I noticed it hurt. And so then I knew something was wrong and the very next day I went to the doctor and that's when I found out that I had stage 3 breast cancer. It was kind of an out of body experience when I found out. You always think it happens to somebody else. You never think that it that it's going to happen to you. And when the doctor started telling me, yes, this is what you have, my mind kind of spaced out and then, you know, going home, it was just, OK, how are we going to tackle this now? When I got the news I dropped everything I was doing. Sorry I might get a little choked up here, but. But dropped everything I was doing. I ran into her in the parking lot, she's getting ready to leave and I was walking up to the store and all I could do is give her a big old hug. So Stacey had her treatments on Wednesdays, so we all just started to decide where in pink on Wednesdays. Chris Alby was wonderful about it and to this day, we all wear pink on Wednesdays no matter what. You don't hear about that in any other business, but that's love through experiences, just being there to support each other and that creates that culture that we have at King Soopers City Market. People always feel bad whenever you find out someone has cancer, but for me, it was a blessing. It really changed my outlook on life. Put things in perspective because you never know what tomorrow can bring and your life can change in an instant. You gotta pick yourself up and and just do the best you can to get through it and stay positive. So that's what what happened.
