Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest impact!💙 Like when you call your new boss at your new job after hours one evening to ask for some unexpected time off starting the following week…. and he graciously listens and says yes without judgement or pressure or guilt. You see my friend Mark had been diagnosed with esophageal cancer with a limited life expectancy. Our friends had invited him to visit, but he was afraid to travel alone given his declining health. When he shared this with me I volunteered to travel with him not knowing at the time that he meant in five days.😂 But I could sense how important it was to him so I made that call to my new boss. Five days later we flew to the Pacific Northwest for what would become an adventure of a lifetime for both of us! For Mark it was his final adventure on this earth. He passed away three months after our trip. But the memories we created and the blessings we experienced during our time in Hood River, Oregon, are a constant source of joy and inspiration.💛 These pictures were taken one year ago today on Cannon Beach - our first stop after we landed in Portland! It was spectacular! Remembering Mark and so grateful for a boss who said yes!🙌 Great leaders take the time to listen, to understand what’s important to their people, and remain flexible when life throws us curve balls! I will never forget the gift I was given because of that yes!! Thank you DLK!
My sister-in-law died of esophageal cancer a few years ago. Such a terrible disease! What a beautiful story of helping someone find joy in the midst of such a trial!
