What I gained after earning CompTIA Security+ (beyond the certification): It wasn’t just about passing an exam—it changed how I think and operate. Here are a few skills that stood out: 🔐 Security-first mindset I now naturally consider access control, data protection, and vulnerabilities during product and system design—not after. ⚠️ Risk-based thinking I’ve become more intentional about evaluating impact, threat exposure, and failure scenarios before making decisions. 🧠 Stronger system awareness Understanding how networks, endpoints, and users interact helps me see the bigger picture—and where things can break. 📊 Better incident understanding I can interpret logs, recognize anomalies, and understand how incidents are triaged and escalated. 🛠️ Process & compliance awareness I have a deeper appreciation for governance, controls, and why structured processes matter in real-world environments. A look behind the scenes of an NIS2 Gap Assessment. Everyone is talking about NIS2 — but very few people actually show what a gap analysis looks like in practice. So I put together a short walkthrough: → what a Gap Assessment actually is (SOLL vs. IST) → what the assessment criteria look like at row level → how NIS2 requirements map directly to Microsoft 365 tools (Entra, Defender, Sentinel, Purview) → how 70+ individual checkpoints become a simple traffic-light overview for the management board → three things that come up in almost every assessment 📝 A note on language: my full workbook and report templates are currently in German, because most of my work is with DACH mid-market companies. The recent wave of supply chain attacks didn't just expose vulnerabilities in code. They exposed how much enterprise security relies on trust that was never verified. Here is a practical checklist every security and engineering leader should run through today: → Dependency & Package Management -Are all third-party packages pinned to specific verified versions, not floating tags? -Do you use an internal mirror or artifact proxy to control what gets pulled into builds? -Is there a minimum release age policy before new package versions are adopted? -Are package integrity checks (hash/digest verification) enforced at build time? → Secrets & Credentials -Are all CI/CD credentials short-lived and narrowly scoped, not long-lived tokens? -Have you audited your repositories for hard-coded secrets in the last 90 days? -Are canary tokens deployed to alert on potential credential exfiltration? -Is two-factor authentication enforced on all package registry and repository accounts? → CI/CD Pipeline Security -Are GitHub Actions workflows restricted from pull_request_target triggers unless absolutely necessary? -Is every CI runner treated as a potential breach point with sandboxed execution? -Are signing certificates and notarization materials stored with multi-party access controls? -Is there active monitoring on workflow execution, not just logs reviewed after the fact?
