We’re proud to share that Mencap has taken on 8 new services supporting 21 people with a learning disability across Suffolk and Norfolk ✨ At the heart of this transition are people with a learning disability: their lives, their relationships, and their right to feel secure, listened to, and supported. With Mencap’s strong foundations in East Anglia, we were able to step in quickly to provide continuity of care, welcome 42 brilliant colleagues into Mencap, and continue trusted relationships that mean so much to people and families. Important Update from Ascent Today we shared news about a strategic redesign of our services to strengthen Ascent for the future. Ascent is transitioning away from centre-based Life Skills Participation Program (LPP) at Leone’s Place and Drop-In services. We will expand Supported Independent Living (SIL) and start delivering much-needed respite services. This change reflects the evolving NDIS environment and our responsibility to ensure Ascent remains financially sustainable, strong, and here for the long term. Leone’s Place will continue to play an important role in our future. The site will transition to support accommodation, respite, training and community, with part of the building to be used as a SIL home while longer-term plans are developed. We know this news will impact some participants, families and staff. These decisions are never easy. Our focus now is on respectful transitions, open communication, and ensuring continuity of support wherever possible. Ascent is not closing — we are strengthening. 💙 By focusing on sustainable service models, we are building a resilient organisation that can continue supporting people with disability across our region for many years to come. That’s trust at the highest level. At JDSS, we don’t look at participants as “clients.” We look at them as individuals with goals, personality, culture, and potential. A support worker named Annette Linda said something worth sitting with: "It's not about replacing what we have right now. It's about making sure we actually know the person we support." Annette works with NZCL and she's resonated something the sector knows but rarely says out loud. Care information is fragmented. It lives in handover notes, in rosters, in people's heads. When a support worker changes, the person being supported has to start over - re-explaining their routines, their preferences, what works for them. It's an invisible gap. And it has a real cost. MyLog exists to close it. NZ's first portable care diary, built for disabled people and their families. Not tied to any provider. Not dependent on any one organisation's system. It travels with the person. So the next support worker walks in already knowing who they're supporting. DBHDS quietly updated the Virginia Informed Choice Form (DMAS 460) on 2/4/26 and the VIC Protocol on 2/3/26. This matters more than most providers realize. The VIC form isn't just paperwork. It's the mechanism that ensures individuals with developmental disabilities are genuinely choosing their service settings, not just being slotted into whatever's available. For residential providers, this directly impacts how you present options and document consent during the ISP process. If your team hasn't pulled the latest version, now's the time. Old forms can create compliance headaches down the road.
