Thrilled to share that Veeco Instruments and imec have jointly developed a 300mm high‑volume‑manufacturing‑compatible process enabling the integration of barium titanate (BaTiO₃, BTO) on silicon photonics — a major milestone for next‑generation datacom, quantum computing, LiDAR, and AR/VR technologies. This first‑of‑its‑kind MBE‑based cluster system delivers single‑crystal BTO films on 300mm silicon, offering improved repeatability, lower cost, and scalability beyond what traditional MBE methods can achieve. BTO’s unique electro‑optic properties unlock new possibilities for high‑speed, low‑power light modulation—addressing long‑standing challenges in silicon photonics and paving the way for future heterogeneous integration. This achievement reflects years of collaborative innovation between Veeco and imec, focused on expanding the capabilities of Veeco's silicon photonics platform and preparing the industry for efficient, production‑ready electro‑optic materials.
