It was a pleasure to meet the Slovak Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Juraj Blanár, in Iceland yesterday. We discussed the Iceland–Slovakia geothermal cooperation and the progress we have been making together with MH Teplárenský holding since the autumn of last year. Slovakia is blessed with low- to medium-temperature geothermal resources. These could supply at least 30% of the heat for the country's district heating network—which already serves three-quarters of the population. The geothermal cooperation was one of the prime topics in the Minister's meetings with his Icelandic counterpart, Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, and the President of Iceland, Halla Tomasdottir, in Reykjavík yesterday. It is inspiring to see the strategic support given to this cooperation, which will lead to lower and more stable heat prices, carbon savings, energy security and greater resilience.
