For more than 65 years, UN Messenger of Peace Jane Goodall devoted her life to protecting our planet and its wildlife. On Tuesday’s World Chimpanzee Day, we honor her legacy, pioneering research and unwavering commitment to chimpanzee conservation.
Jane Goodall has been one of my greatest inspirations for many years. I admired not only her extraordinary contribution to science and conservation, but also the humanity, humility, and unwavering hope with which she approached the world. She showed us that scientific understanding and compassion are not opposites—and that one person’s patient, courageous commitment can transform how generations see animals, nature, and our responsibility towards the living world. What I admired most was her ability to speak about devastating realities without surrendering to despair. Her hope was never passive; it was a call to responsibility and action. I deeply admired her, and her life’s work will continue to influence the way I think about courage, compassion, and meaningful change. Her legacy will live on wherever knowledge becomes protection and hope becomes action. 💚
Conservation endures when stewardship becomes institutional. The conditions emerging across ecosystems continue to demonstrate that protecting biodiversity depends not only on scientific dedication and individual leadership, but also on the institutional capacity to sustain conservation efforts across generations. Lasting environmental progress is strengthened when stewardship becomes embedded within research, education, policy, and community action. This suggests that enduring conservation is shaped not only by the legacy of remarkable individuals, but by the institutional conditions that carry that legacy forward.

Jane Goodall changed humanity’s understanding of life. The fracture is that our behaviour did not change with it. We learned that other beings possess intelligence, bonds, memory and suffering. Yet habitats still disappear, species still decline, and life remains measured by its usefulness to us. Knowledge expanded. Permission remained. A legacy becomes civilisational only when what we learned begins to limit what we allow ourselves to destroy. This is the fracture explored in The Third Foundation - The New Ethics of Humanity, by Rui Ribeiro. ♟️ RR Nothing ends here.
United Nations Her lifelong dedication continues to inspire generations. Thank you for showing the world the power of one person's commitment, Dr. Goodall
"...UN Messenger of Peace..." Good honor/title. Jane Goodall, sorry this comment isn't for you but UN. But congratulations for keeping chimpanzee. UN: what exactly is peace to warrant messenger? What honor is that in dungeon of ignorance? Does that philosophy really work on human social affairs fictional compliant on stories instead of non-fictional compliant on Chemistry education? Who exactly are these UN policy makers? Do they really have feeling's for humanity or nations is humanity? How can you draft Messenger of Peace for title but is there any peace on earth? Sir, peace on earth is in education yet unestablished. So, if there shall be messenger of peace on earth shall go to people who brought about education, not compromise learning/teaching in school. Sir, your world chimpanzee day - what's the meaning of that? Sir, what exactly is Humanity before you - bunch of fools? And you're included. Sir, mark out Day for whatever on earth is irrelevant to challenges faced humanity and earth planet. Politics is obsolete to human functionality and reform can't work. It's Education on universities worldwide. Hand over administrations worldwide to universities worldwide and watch for couple of days it results, if there's peace.
Reading this made me think that some of the biggest changes in the world don't happen quickly. They happen because someone refuses to give up
In the early nineties, I had the opportunity to attend a lecture with Dr. Goodall as primary speaker. I had recently had throat surgery, so my voice hadn’t quite recovered before this event. Although I could only muster a whisper at best, she took my hands and listened to me with compassion and understanding. Dr. Jane Goodall embodied a calm strength and deep passion for her cause. Her legacy will carry on for generations.
