What do you do when the valve a customer needs no longer exists? We recently faced that challenge with the Canadian Navy. They needed a replacement for an obsolete valve, and the traditional path forward wasn't going to work in the time frame needed. Long lead times on body castings made conventional manufacturing impractical for the timeline. So we took a different approach. We proposed an additive manufactured valve body, meeting the required form, fit, and function of the original. It was a prototype, a one-off, but the case for it was clear: additive manufacturing offered a faster path without compromising on what mattered. The results impressed us. The material quality exceeded expectations, and the Canadian Navy was receptive to the idea of an additively manufactured valve from the start. This isn't just a story about one valve. It's a reminder that solving problems for the fleet sometimes means stepping outside the traditional manufacturing playbook. Obsolescence is a real and growing challenge in naval sustainment.
