The career rollercoaster

The first time I rode the Smiler at Alton Towers I was filled with trepidation and excitement and there was also a fair amount of ribbing from my daughters to make sure I didn’t wimp out. I thought there was no way I could back out and as it happens thoroughly enjoyed the ride.

Bizarrely, I now have exactly the same sensation as I venture out with my new business, Paper over the crax. Scared, definitely. Nervous, absolutely. Excited, beyond anything.

Having worked in corporate land for a number of years, it is something I have always thought about doing but never felt like the time or the market was quite right. However, having taken the plunge, it feels exhilarating to be 100% in control of your own destiny without answering to anyone, except myself and our customers.

Paper over the crax connects innovators with introvators through platform led networking. The name comes from the following definition of Paper over the cracks (note the difference in spelling):

“to hide problems between p eople , in order to make a situation seem better than it really is"

The concept is that large entities (public and private) introvate rather than innovate but are desperate to differentiate without always having the requisite knowhow and therefore paper over the cracks for fear of failure. Our role is to remove that inertia and drive genuine innovation to the forefront for adoption.
