One of the biggest challenges in Green IT today is the fragmentation of sustainability data. Across the IT ecosystem, systems rarely operate on a common language, making holistic measurement difficult.
Infosys has announced a strategic collaboration with Sopht I B Corp certified to help enterprises embed sustainability into their IT systems as they adopt digital and AI technologies. This new joint offering delivers an end-to-end approach to help enterprises measure, assess, plan, and continuously track how their IT systems impact both the environment and overall business performance.
For years, sustainability in IT was treated as a peripheral concern. As McKinsey & Company notes, “every senior management team today is investing in sustainability.”
𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐈𝐓 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦.
Boards are responding by treating sustainability as part of the core IT operating model, including how infrastructure is designed, workloads are managed, and performance is measured. This means replacing estimate-based reporting with actual usage data, evaluating both cost and carbon impacts, and assigning each initiative to teams accountable for execution and results.
Microsoft has committed to becoming carbon negative by 2030, while Unilever aims to achieve net-zero emissions across its value chain by 2039. At the same time, regulations such as the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) are raising expectations for traceable, auditable disclosures.
This shift creates a new challenge. Enterprises continue to accelerate cloud adoption, AI, and data modernization, but these same initiatives increase the environmental footprint of IT. Most organizations can report emissions, yet few can measure them with enough precision to identify opportunities such as cloud rightsizing, storage optimization, and reduction of idle compute capacity. Without that visibility, sustainability efforts remain difficult to scale and govern.
Built on Infosys’ established sustainability-led transformation approach, Sopht’s Green ITOps platform provides granular measurement and 360° observability across IT environments, while Infosys embeds these insights into enterprise operating models through implementation, orchestration, and governance.
Early deployments indicate CO₂ reductions of around 20% through cloud rightsizing, rising to nearly 47% when broader workload and data optimizations are applied.
The winners will be organizations that turn sustainability promises into measurable, verifiable impact.
