Tino had a bet to make on stage at FabCon. If the live petabyte-scale query didn't run successfully in front of a full audience, he'd eat the ghost pepper. Full demo dropping soon. Did the query run? Get Kim's rundown of the 2026 Agent Confidence Index on the Microsoft Fabric blog. When data and AI come together, that's where you see the gains right away.
I built myself a "chief of staff" agent a few months ago. Every morning it pulls my calendar, my key metrics, my customer context, and my latest comms into one briefing. The hour I used to spend assembling that picture is now a few minutes - and I start the day actually knowing what matters. I'm seeing the same shift across my teams. They're not bolting AI onto old tasks. They're redesigning how the work gets done. So where can agents be trusted to act today? We partnered with MIT Technology Review Insights on the Agent Confidence Index - 300 technology experts ranking 101 tasks by how much they'd trust an agent to act on their behalf. The pattern is clear: data teams are out front. Confidence is highest where the work is well-scoped, high-volume, structured, and reversible - data quality monitoring, anomaly detection, real-time stream monitoring. Easy to validate, easy to build trust. It drops as tasks get more complex and interconnected. But here's the part worth sitting with: when an agent gets it wrong, it's usually not the model. It's missing context. Ask for your "top customers by revenue" and the agent still needs to know which definition of customer, how revenue is calculated, and what timeframe applies. The bottleneck is no longer model capability. It's shared, consistent data context. That's exactly what we're building with Fabric IQ and Microsoft IQ - grounding agents in how your business actually runs, the same way you'd onboard a new team member. Add governance and observability from day one, and confidence compounds. Start where confidence is already high. Build the foundation for everything after it.
