It frays, and then snaps at peak load! 20+ years I've been building hyperscale networks and data centres. My teams have saved the "cloud giants" over $1B by hunting weak links before they hunt you.     When One Supplier Fails: The Cucumber Recall That Ripples Across the Industry This past week has served as a stark reminder of how one supplier misstep can ripple through the food supply chain, triggering a wave of recalls across multiple products and retailers. In a single week, over 17 major food and beverage recalls were reported, many traced back to cucumbers supplied by Bedner Growers, Inc. The cucumbers, contaminated with Salmonella, were used in a wide range of products, from Greek salads and marinated cucumber salads to sushi trays, seafood stuffing, and made-to-order deli items. Retailers including Kroger, Weis, Big Y, and others were forced to remove affected products from shelves across numerous states. Every vulnerability assessment I conduct reveals the same thing: Fraud thrives where systems are weak, traceability is patchy, and assumptions go unchecked. If you're in fresh produce or food exports and still relying on paper trails and promises, you're not secure. Here’s how I approach food fraud vulnerability assessments And how you should too, if you care about protecting your product and reputation: Step 1: Know Your Supplier Stop trusting PDF certificates or WhatsApp screenshots. ✅ Verify certification directly from GLOBALG.A.P or BRC databases. ✅ Dig into their history: residue failures, audit flags, inconsistencies. It’s all in the data. Step 2: Map the Supply Chain If you can't trace it, you can’t trust it. ✅ From farm to packhouse, every step must be documented. ✅ Check harvest dates, transport logs, and packhouse entries. Mismatches = red flag. Step 3: Spot the Loopholes Fraud loves unmonitored spaces: ▪️ Weak grading? That’s how mislabeling slips through. ▪️ Manual records? Easy to edit. ▪️ Long supply chains? Perfect for origin switching. Don’t assume, assess.
