Luca Spinelli shared thisTwo cities. Two iconic stages. One unforgettable week. Last week I had the privilege of attending SAS #Innovate On Tour in Liverpool at the legendary Anfield Stadium and in Milan at the beautiful Teatro Lirico Giorgio Gaber. Two settings that could not be more different, and yet both left me equally mesmerized. What made these stops so special was the combination of the venues, the production, the lights and the conversations. Innovate on Tour gives us the chance to stop the train and sit down with our customers to listen, to understand where they are on their data and AI journey, what is keeping them up at night, and how we can stand beside them as they navigate it. Those moments, over a coffee, between sessions, on the way to dinner, are where trust is built and where real partnerships are forged. The quality of the sessions and speakers was outstanding. Hearing our leadership team and, most importantly, our customers share their stories live on stage was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. A special shout-out to Angelo Tenconi and Team for the super demo in Milan. "Fenomenale". We shall take that show on the road. If I had to summarize the main takeaway from these two days, in an era where the AI conversation is louder and faster than ever, it would be this: People will matter. The technology will keep evolving. The models will keep getting smarter. But the differentiator, the thing that turns a great product into a trusted partnership, will always be the humans behind it. Our customers, our partners, our teams. The relationships we build. The empathy we bring. The accountability we hold ourselves to. That is what I carried home from Liverpool and Milan. And that is what makes me proud to be part of SAS in our 50th year. Onwards to the next stops on the tour. Had my strength work early AM, then took the kids to their swimming class and made it productive with a quick swim myself as well, then went for a 30’ walk with my wife to catch up and talk. Resting my brain usually means either go 200% physical or creative. Yesterday I went full fitness mode. #wellbeing #mentalhealth #rechargeday

Luca Spinelli shared thisTwo weeks ago I flew from Dubai to Dallas for SAS #Innovate. Best edition I have witnessed so far. Great partners, great customers, leadership firing on all cylinders, and a message about where this company is going that genuinely excited me. Mel Robbins on stage. Dude Perfect smashing a Guinness World Record. One evening SAS took us all out to a ranch where we watched cowboys with bulls and horses, shared great moments together, and went home with a cowboy hat. Mine made it back to the hotel and then onto the flight to Cary. In Cary I had a full week with my team. Business as usual, but I was still running on the energy from Dallas. Through the weekend and into Monday I watched two Hurricanes playoff games with SAS colleagues. Hurricanes won both games. The second one was electric! And somewhere between the ice and the crowd I felt genuinely connected to what that team was doing, the spirit, the discipline, the way they played for each other. Then this morning, packing to fly back to Dubai, I saw the two hats sitting on the desk. The cowboy hat. The Hurricanes cap. And it hit me. Cowboys manage. They read the situation, they take control, they make fast decisions under pressure. Hockey teams coached well win because everyone knows their role, trusts the system, and plays beyond themselves. Two completely different approaches. Both necessary. Both powerful. And as leaders we are expected to wear both hats, often in the same week, sometimes in the same day. The question is not which one you prefer. The question is whether you know which one you are wearing right now, and whether the person in front of you knows it too. Manage when the situation demands direction. Coach when the person needs space to grow. Because what we agreed on at Innovate is that people will always matter. But what sits beneath that recognition matters just as much. At SAS, we have always believed that technology on its own does not create impact. Skills do. Confidence does. The ability to apply data and #AI to real decisions does. That is why our partnerships with #educators are not a side initiative. They are part of how we serve our customers. Every programme, every course, every hands-on project is building something our customers rely on every day: people who can step into complex environments and contribute from the start. People who understand not just the tools, but the context in which those tools create value. For our customers, this means faster adoption. Stronger #outcomes. Less time spent closing #skills gaps, and more time focused on solving real problems. But there is also something more fundamental at play. #Learning does not stop at graduation. In a world where AI is evolving quickly, the organisations that succeed will be those that treat learning as a continuous #discipline. A habit, not an event. We are proud to invest in that journey. Not just through our #technology, but through the ecosystems that help people grow with it. Because in the end, our role is not just to deliver #software. It is to help our customers build the capability to use it well today, and over the long term.

Two threads from r/dataengineering this week: a team whose bill hit 2x their (already buffered) estimate migrating to Databricks, tracking toward 4x by the time they’re done. Another where a single Photon misconfig in a small POC quietly generated a 5-digit bill before anyone caught it. Same root cause both times - DBU pricing bills you for compute-hours, not work done, so a misconfigured cluster costs you real money, fast. For anyone outside football (soccer), Opta is the data behind most serious football analysis. As a model input it means sharper projections, and just as importantly it lets our subscribers get into the underlying numbers themselves and bring their own reads into the model. We're also partnering with the Opta Analyst team on co-branded analysis, combining their data with our FPL expertise. 'Opta is the absolute gold standard for data in the world of football. We could not be happier about this long-term agreement,' says Jørgen Gjærum, CEO of Solio. The partnership has already gone into effect and will shape both Solio’s input and output in the coming years. 'Not only does it allow us to deliver even better projections, it also makes it easier for subscribers of our FPL tool to explore and understand the underlying data for themselves – and to bring their own data-backed beliefs into the model. This is a massive step forward for a young startup like ours,' Gjærum adds. At the launch of the 2026/27 FPL season, Solio’s subscribers will gain access to all the relevant Premier League data Opta provides. From expected goals (xG) and expected assists (xA) to DefCon metrics and much more – all sitting alongside our projections and updating as the season unfolds. The multi-year agreement is not just about raw data feeds; it also contains extensive collaborative and co-branded content. We want to put our knowledge at the service of the community, to stimulate the local market. The idea is to encourage more people to settle in the town - or at least not to leave. It is a non-profit organisation, and we founders see it as a philanthropic activity, a way to give something back to their community.
