Defencé Attache Kasper Flinker Ladegaard has spent the week in St. John’s, Newfoundland, to participate in the Maritime and Arctic Security and Safety Conference (MASS 2026). ⚓ On Wednesday he participated in a panel discussion on how to operate in the Arctic and North Atlantic region. He gave a brief on how the Danish armed forces sustain, operate and respond in the vast, harsh, and sometimes extreme condidtions, and discussed challenges and opportunities. On the panel were leaders from Canadian navy, coast guard, air force and NATO Diana. 🇩🇰 🇨🇦 MASS 2026 brings together innovators, government and military leaders, and with strong representation form northern leaders ensures northern perspectives, priorities and expertise are front and center.

At the end of May, Senior Trade Advisor Helene Scherling Olsen alongside Ambassador Nikolaj Harris and Head of Greenland’s Representation to the US and Canada, Jacob Isbosethsen,, led a Canada delegation to the Future Greenland Conference, in Nuuk, Greenland. The delegation also engaged in business meetings with a range of Greenlandic stakeholders. The conference is a testment to the ongoing support, collaboration, and resilience of stakeholders working in and with Greenland. The delegation took the only 2-hour Air Greenland flight from Iqaluit to Nuuk, also visited the newly opened Canadian Consulate in Nuuk – where they were met by Consul Julie Crôteau and Ambassador Carolyn Bennett . This week Danish Defence Attaché to Canada, Commander (s.g.) Kasper Flinker Ladegaard is participating in the ACADA - Atlantic Canada Aerospace & Defence Association’s Maritime and Arctic Security Conference in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The conference brings together industry innovators, government and military leaders focusing on northern perspectives, priorities and expertise. Today he (left) met with leaders from the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Coast Guard, and business leaders. Among them were the CEO of ACADA, Victoria Belkin (center) and Rear Admiral David Mazur, the Canadian Vice Commander of the US 2. Fleet.

Today the first of three SOI Foundation expeditions begins. Around 55 students and 35 educators embark on an adventure through the Arctic, starting in Nuuk then moving through communities in both Greenland and Northern Canada, before ending in Iqaluit in 12 days. Ambassador Nikolaj Harris had the pleasure of speaking with Inuk Slettemark (right), a biathlete and participant of the expedition from Greenland. Slettemark was looking forward to visiting the northern communities in Canada to see how they differed from his home communities. Ambassador Harris also spoke with Brynjar Løkling (left) from Norway who was interested in nature conservation and learning more about the Canadian National Parks. SOI is led by Geoff Green C.M., C.Q. who created the organisation after having the idea during a visit to Antarctica. He wanted to create an opportunity for youth to have the experience of seeing nature up close early enough in their lives for it to help shape their perspectives. Students on Ice Alumni have gone on to make enormous contributions to their communities by innovation, advocacy and making an impact as business leaders. Yesterday the SOI Foundation launched this year’s expeditions from the Canadian Museum of Nature - Musée canadien de la nature in Ottawa. Speeches were held by prominent Arctic representatives like Canada’s Arctic Ambassador Virginia Mearns and the President of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, Natan Obed. Ambassador Nikolaj Harris had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Rolf Bushardt Christensen to the Embassy. Mr. Christensen is the editor of the annual Heritage Book from the Federation of Danish Associations in Canada and gifted the Ambassador a copy of the book.

Today the Danish Ministry of Defence announced that they will strengthen Arctic security with a fleet of two Maritime Patrol Aircrafts. The P-8A Poseidon are the same aircrafts used by Canada, Norway and Germany, all countries who have signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the Security Partnership for the North Atlantic. Denmark’s Minster of Defence, Jeppe Bruus, said yesterday that Denmark, with the latest investments, has reached the NATO goal of five percent of the BNP to be spent on defence and security within 2035. Denmark, Finland, Germany and Norway will also be expanding NATO’s Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Fleet with the purchase of up to five MQ4C Triton aircrafts. According to the The Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) 2026 Global Liveability Index, Copenhagen tops the global ranking thanks to its outstanding performance in health care, culture and environment, education, infrastructure and stability. The ranking reflects Copenhagen's continued investment in sustainable urban planning, high-quality public infrastructure, green spaces, and liveable neighbourhoods.
