Leandra Cookson shared thisThis article highlights one of the biggest concerns business owners face, increasing property taxes which is 3 times what it is for residential. Businesses need support and government needs to take action on their over spending. Debt today is taxes tomorrow. Stand with those that take risks, build communities, provide financial security for those committed to serving - Canada doesn’t work when small and medium size businesses are left behind. #CFIB #timeforchange #lowertaxesVictoria businesses top B.C. for concerns on local government costs - Victoria NewsVictoria businesses top B.C. for concerns on local government costs - Victoria News

Leandra Cookson reposted thisToday, CFIB released its 2026 State of Internal Trade Report Card, and the results show something we haven't seen in a long time: governments across Canada are making meaningful commitments to reduce internal trade barriers. The federal government earned an A+, and 10 jurisdictions received an A grade, reflecting significant momentum on interprovincial trade reform. That's good news for Canada's economy and for the small businesses that want to grow beyond their provincial borders. But here's the catch: progress on paper doesn't always translate into progress in practice. Nearly 7 in 10 small businesses report they have not noticed meaningful improvements in their ability to do business across Canada over the past year, and 16% say it has actually become more difficult. Our report recognizes important advances such as mutual recognition agreements, the removal of many trade exceptions, and renewed political attention to the issue. These are critical steps toward creating a truly open Canadian economy. Now comes the harder part: implementation. Canada has made more progress on internal trade in the last two years than we've seen in over a decade. The challenge now is ensuring that these reforms deliver real results for the entrepreneurs who power our economy. I'm incredibly proud of the work that went into this report and grateful to my colleagues SeoRhin Yoo, Bradlee Whidden, and Bérengère Fouqueray for their expertise, dedication, and thoughtfulness in helping bring this project to life. While governments across the country have made meaningful progress over the past 18 months, many entrepreneurs are still facing unnecessary barriers that make it harder to move goods, services, and workers across provincial borders. The next step is ensuring those commitments translate into real, practical improvements for businesses. In this video, Marvin Cruz, CFIB's Senior Director of Research, shares key insights from CFIB's 2026 State of Internal Trade Report Card. He highlights the progress that's been made, the challenges that remain, and the policy actions needed to create a more seamless Canadian marketplace. Leandra Cookson shared thisCFIB petitioning against 5 paid sick days that government is proposing to be implemented in Manitoba - BC is referenced in this clip as they were the first to be forced down this painful road. Not that long ago 10 mandated sick was circulating. Enough is enough. Stand with your business community and help protect how you run your business. #strongertogether #inbusinessforyourbusiness #wenevergiveupandwenevergoaway #CFIBLeandra Cookson shared this📺 Yesterday, I joined @GlobalWinnipeg to share the small business perspective on the possibility of mandatory employer-paid sick days in Manitoba. Entrepreneurs support policies that work for employees and employers alike, but they are looking for clarity and consultation to help ensure any future changes are practical and sustainable for small firms. Business owners also want government to fully understand the potential costs and impacts that new labour mandates could have on small businesses.

Leandra Cookson liked thisLeandra Cookson liked thisToday is Day 6 of the World Series of Poker (#WSOP) Main Event ♠️ We are now ages ago since I played this crazy hand at the WSOP Main Event Final Table against (last year’s champion 🏆) Michael #TheGrinder Mizrachi! But it still feels like yesterday… For those of you that don’t follow the WSOP (or poker in general), it’s typically 60–100 bracelet events over almost 2 months in Vegas with the Main Event being a $10,000 buy-in and 6,000+ players playing. This 2010 year it took 8.5 gruelling days of poker to make the Final Table and we came back 4 months later to play the Final Table in what was called the #November9. Spoiler alert 🚨: if you read this caption before watching 😂 I lose this hand and finish 8th for just over $1,000,000… 1st place that year was $8.9 million with 🇨🇦 Jonathan Duhamel winning. And 15 years later… the Grinder incredibly won the Main Event himself for a cool $10 million. 😎 Incredible. 🙌🏽 Day 6 is a special day for me as I made it here twice… • 2010 – going on to finish 8th (on Day 9) of 7,319 players • 2015 – finishing 51st out of 6,420 players A lot of people ask me every year if I’m playing the WSOP, as it was a staple in my schedule for over a decade, spending 30–45 days in Vegas every summer. The truth is I haven’t played the Main Event since 2016. Instead, I’ve prioritized family, new business ventures, and being home for the summer. 💚 I know I’ll be back there someday, and hopefully making another deep run. Until then, I’ll be watching from afar, cheering on friends still in the field, and reliving some pretty incredible memories like this one. Good luck to everyone still chasing poker’s biggest dream. ♠️❤️

Leandra Cookson liked thisLeandra Cookson liked thisI’m sitting in the sunshine outside a pizza place in the same mall where, 20 + years ago, I sold my travel agency. It stopped me for a moment. I was a 30-year-old single mom when I opened that business. Looking back now, I realize how gutsy that was. I didn’t have all the answers. I didn’t know how everything would work out. But I believed I could build something, and I did. Sometimes we forget to pause and look back at the amazing things we have already done. That little travel agency changed the course of my life. It taught me what it really takes to build a business, serve customers, manage uncertainty, make decisions, and keep going. And in many ways, that experience became the foundation for the work I do today, supporting small business owners and the professionals who help them all over the world. I’m not that young single mom anymore. Reflecting back, I’m very proud of her. ❤️ And I’m grateful that I get to use what I learned to help others build organized and profitable businesses that support their lives, their families, and their dreams. A quiet moment in an old hallway can remind you how far you’ve come. And today , that reminder is exactly what I needed. #SmallBusiness #Entrepreneurship #SmallBusinessCoaching #BusinessGrowth #SystemsBusinessCoach #OrganizedAndProfitable
