This event represents a truly unique cultural intersection... We are bringing together two extraordinary musical visionaries: Rodrigo Gallardo (Chile): I'm thrilled to host Rodrigo for his highly anticipated Vancouver debut. As a founding member of the legendary band Matanza, he seamlessly integrates Andean roots, charangos, and woodwinds with deep electronic bass lines. Fresh off his 2026 live album, his work has captivated audiences globally, including a featured set on France's prestigious Cercle platform. Marek Tyler's ASKO (Cree Nation): Opening the night is this immersive project led by nêhiyaw (Cree) beat-worker Marek Tyler (formerly of the Juno-nominated band nêhiyawak). Grounded in the Cree foundational principle of askôtowin (weaving our existence into creation), ASKO beautifully blends the kinetics of pow-wow dancers and the heartbeat of the big drum with modern electronic soundscapes. For me, events like this highlight the true power of music, acting as a universal language that connects global folklore with profound local storytelling. The English version of the latest study on the impact of carsharing in Bremen—covering customer needs, awareness and acceptance among non-users, corporate applications, and much more—is finally available! Over 4,400 Bremen residents participated, confirming that a single carsharing vehicle replaces 18.8 private cars and that carsharing enjoys high acceptance among both users and non-users in the city. You can read a summary of some of the key findings here. The link to the full study is also included in the post. The evaluation was carried out by the Institut Schreier and financed through the Interreg North Sea Programme Project SHARE-North Squared. As summer begins and my personal priorities and commitments shift, I’ve made the decision to step into a new chapter and formally move on from my role. I leave with great appreciation for the work, the people, and the mission, and I’m proud of what we accomplished together. It has been a privilege to support an organization I deeply care about through a period of real challenge, innovation, and transformation. I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to contribute alongside an inspiring group of people who honestly care about community, collaboration, and impact: CityStudio’s team and board, Indigenous leaders, community partners, city staff, faculty, and students. Over this time, I’ve built relationships and learned lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. My sincere gratitude to everyone who has been part of this journey. I keep learning, reconciling with myself, my path, my ancestry, and my place in the world... which has deeply turned into "my world in the place" I'm grateful to elder Ruth Adams, elder Larry Grant, Dr. Georgina Martin, Elizabeth Ross, BSW, Joseph Kakwinokanasum, David Kirk M.Ed Tzeachten First Nation, Jason EagleSpeaker, Jaimy Fischer, Cash Ahenakew, Jacob Beaton and the many other wonderful indigenous people that have kindly shared your stories, feelings and visions with me. I will continue to seat, listen, learn the truth to get to a true place of reconciliation that will bring peace, unity, balance and joy to our communities. We have a lot of work to do, too much to heal. I hope to keep on finding ways to be reciprocal to the abundant kindness and wisdom I have felt in my years in these lands. The Financial Literacy for the Music Industry program is FREE and is open for up to 20 musicians and music industry professionals. I’m grateful to have been part of Language in the Landscape, which received two recognitions at this year’s showcase: 🏅 Most Scalable Project 🏅 Most Responsive Project (1 of 3 winning groups!) Created through SFU’s PUB 438 course in collaboration with CityStudio Vancouver, Language in the Landscape explores how design can support Indigenous-led place renaming initiatives by creating meaningful learning experiences. Inspired by Vancouver’s city signage, we designed a pocket-sized interactive zine that introduces newcomers to Halq’eméylem (Halkomelem) and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) through pronunciation, speaking, and writing activities. Beyond learning a language, our goal was to encourage stronger connections with the land, its stories, and the communities that have cared for these places for generations. Over six weeks, I worked on the research, interaction design, content development, prototyping, and visual design alongside my teammates Mansimar Wadhera and Taeri Lee. This project challenged me to design with empathy, accessibility, and cultural sensitivity while collaborating with community partners and experts. It was incredibly rewarding to present our work at HUBHUB 2026 and receive such positive feedback. I’m also excited that Language in the Landscape is now featured as an open resource on CityStudio Vancouver’s website. A heartfelt thank you to Mauve Page, Nina Abizadeh, Lauren Schneider, Pablo Zacarías, Kyra Borland, CityStudio Vancouver , and everyone who shared their knowledge, guidance, and encouragement throughout this project. Finally, thank you to my amazing teammates and everyone who attended HUBHUB 2026. Pablo Zacarías reacted on thisPablo Zacarías reacted on thisOne of the hardest lessons leadership has taught me is this: The goal isn’t to get everyone to agree. The goal is to help people stay in relationship while they disagree. Whether you’re leading a family, a business, a board, a community, or a Nation, high-stakes decisions bring different perspectives, competing priorities, and deeply held values. That’s not a sign something is wrong. It’s a sign that leadership matters. Too often we mistake disagreement for disloyalty. We stop debating ideas and begin questioning motives. We attack people instead of problems. Before long, the issue is no longer the issue - the relationship is. One of the greatest misconceptions about leadership is that success means achieving consensus. Consensus is wonderful when it happens. It is not always possible. If we wait until everyone agrees, we can unintentionally give every individual a veto over the future. Leadership sometimes means making a decision after people have been heard, respected, and genuinely considered. People may not agree with every decision. But they should always be able to say they were treated fairly, listened to respectfully, and never made to feel like the enemy because they held a different view. I’ve come to believe that healthy organizations don’t thrive because everyone thinks alike. They thrive because they learn how to disagree without destroying trust. Unity is not thinking the same. Unity is staying in relationship while thinking differently. That may be one of the most important responsibilities of leadership today. #StayInRightRelationship #FourDirectionsManagement

Congratulations to our PGME Office!Pablo Zacarías reacted on thisWe're excited to share that the SFU Stephens Family School of Medicine has been granted Institutional Accreditation from the Canadian Residency Accreditation Consortium (CanRAC)! This accreditation marks an important milestone for the school. Our Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) Office is now accredited—a prerequisite for offering residency programs. Our first residency program, the 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦, is on track to open admissions this fall and welcome its inaugural cohort of 12 residents in July 2027. Today we officially opened the White Rock Beach Wheelchair Program, and it was a truly special moment. Last summer, I met a White Rock resident who uses a wheelchair. He excitedly asked where he could rent a beach wheelchair, and it broke my heart to tell him there wasn’t a program, even though the chairs already existed. I remained dedicated to do everything I could to help change that. Fast forward one year, and seeing him at today’s opening was a full-circle moment. ❤️ This program only became possible because of an incredible community effort. Thank you to Self Advocates of Semiahmoo (SAS) with UNITI for starting this vision nearly a decade ago, Naakua Paddleboard Shop for stepping up to help make it happen, the Accessibility Advisory Committee, Motion , City of White Rock staff, Council and everyone else who worked together to find a solution. I’m also proud to have two kinds of beach wheelchairs, allowing people to enjoy not only the sand but the water too. Today I had the opportunity to speak before Vancouver's Standing Committee on City Finance and Services in support of Councillor sean orr's motion advancing the formation of a Cultural Land Trust. I'm grateful to the committee for its unanimous support in this important conversation. Vancouver has already lost more than 400,000 square feet of creative workspace. A Cultural Land Trust offers a different path through community ownership and long-term stewardship, ensuring cultural spaces remain places where artists, organizations, and communities can create, gather, and thrive. Thank you to Councillor Orr for bringing this motion forward, to 221A for leading the project, demonstrating what's possible through community stewardship, and to the committee for recognizing that cultural infrastructure deserves long-term thinking. Perfect timing as I prepare for Music Cities Alberta, where I'm looking forward to learning from Shain Shapiro PhD, Sound Diplomacy Events and Education, and others advancing this work around the world.
