I’m pleased to have attended the session “An Overview of Desalination Technologies and Criteria for Selecting the Appropriate Technology”, presented by Dr.Mohamed Haikal and organized by AquaEnergy Expo🌊 The session addressed the global water crisis, the growth and future potential of the desalination market (2000–2050), and provided an overview of the main desalination technologies. It also explored the key criteria for technology selection, cost considerations, marketable byproducts, and the positive and negative environmental impacts of desalination. A valuable learning experience that deepened my understanding of desalination systems and technology selection within water treatment applications. #Desalination #WaterTreatment #RO #AquaEnergyExpo

🚀 We're excited to share our latest work, led by Prof. Dwight Seferos and Prof. Alán Aspuru-Guzik, supported by CFREF's Acceleration Consortium. We have discovered a new class of water-soluble viologen-based polymers that open up exciting possibilities for sustainable, low-cost energy storage. By leveraging a highly hydrophilic polyether backbone, we created polymers that: ✅ High performance in water > 0.5-0.6 M (16 Ah/L theoretical capacity) ✅ Enable cost savings: Simple one-step synthesis from poly(epibromohydrin) allows use of inexpensive dialysis membranes instead of Nafion (saves ~40% battery cost) ✅ No crossover through membranes with stable, reversible redox behaviour and no interference from the polymer backbone at neutral pH. 🔋 This is the first viologen-bearing homopolymer synthesized via post-polymerization modification, a promising step forward in expanding the toolbox for aqueous polymer redox-flow batteries. The #PFASfiltrationmarket is projected to reach 𝗨𝗦𝗗 𝟮.𝟵𝟵 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬 from USD 2.13 billion in 2025, at a 𝗖𝗔𝗚𝗥 𝗼𝗳 𝟳.𝟬% during the forecast period. The #PFASfiltrationindustry is expanding robustly due to increased awareness regarding the extreme health and environmental risks presented by PFAS. It is also referred to as “𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹”. PFAS is very persistent and has been linked with cancer, hormone disruption, effects on the immune system, and other chronic health problems.
