What I actually found across a sample of 662 original projects from 367 makers on Make-it.ai this spring: something different. 𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐨 Audio and Music is the single largest user-built category. 10% of all originals. Bigger than smart home (which didn't crack the top ten). Four independent guitar tuners. Five music visualizers. Headphone amps, theremins, drum machines, synthesizers. The bedroom-electronics tradition didn't die. It migrated to ESP32-class hardware and is now the biggest single domain in the data. 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠: ESP32 has quietly won the connected-MCU race. 60% of projects use the ESP family. Arduino AVR is 22%, mostly the Arduino Nano holding on where Wi-Fi isn't the point. Tools, Art/Lighting, Kids/Games. And the Raspberry Pi Pico, despite five years of Adafruit, Pimoroni, and Foundation promotion? 0.6%. Four projects out of 662. Private offline AI is showing up on the workbench. Four makers, working completely independently, built local AI voice assistants in eight weeks. The privacy-first AI movement isn't coming from a vendor. It's coming from the workbench. One platform, eight weeks, a small sample. Take it as a snapshot, not a verdict. You have an idea - a sensor, a connected light, a small custom device. To actually build it you need code, the right components, a wiring diagram and the patience to debug all three. That's the gap we close. Describe what you want. We design it, plan the architecture, generate the code, and ship the parts kit to your door. Third month in. Here's where we are: - 10 first paying customers - $150 AOV - 3x users month-over-month - First viral campaign in the books The model: planning is free, you pay when you order the components kit. Free side pulls people in; the kit closes the loop. The harder lesson this month was about who we're actually for. We'd been pitching to makers. Wrong audience. The real one is DIY-ers - people who want to build something real but don't already live on r/arduino. The moment we shifted, growth followed. The playbook: - Map the communities they're actually in - Lurk before posting - Comment as a human, not as a model - Original content only - real projects, real photos - Use AI to scale what's working (copy variants, image selection, distribution) - never to fake the human part - When a post catches, move fast; don't oversell Community × relevant projects × honest voice. That's been the combo. Next up: raising a $500K pre-seed. The goal is break-even with the team we have today - Claude, Gemini, Nirit and me. We built something different for our own projects. Before a line of code is written, the system first defines who this feature is actually for - the end users, their goals, their context - and uses that to shape everything that follows. It then automatically assembles the right workflow and expert panel for that specific project. They argue, reach consensus, and that reasoning is recorded. Then tests get written first, code gets implemented, documented, and deployed - with a full audit trail of every decision. The target here isn't faster code. It's code that arrives the way your best engineers would deliver it - reviewed, tested, documented, with the why captured - without them being in every room. we've just published these abilities as open source project. A lot has been written about the turmoil of Facebook in India with Internet.org and Free Basics. I believe Facebook’s intentions were good. It is a legitimate idea to monetize in the future through users, but I think we’re missing the point here. The issue is not with the phone cost nor with the data plan. Facebook has great assets that could boost those currently not online. I don’t want to argue for or against net neutrality or the benefits of connecting people to the Internet. I’d like to share my thoughts on what Facebook’s direction should be, based on what it currently has and what could make a difference.
Facebook has many technological assets directly connected with what Internet.org could have been: from Facebook Lite to knowing users’ profiles and changing interests. I’ll try to tackle some of the things Facebook could do in India, relating each to different audiences of Internet.org.

I watched Apple pay $2 billion for a company that never launched a product. Apple just acquired Q.ai, an Israeli startup founded in 2022 by Aviad Maizels. The same founder who sold PrimeSense to Apple in 2013. That tech became Face ID. Now he's back with "silent speech" recognition-AI that reads facial micro-movements to understand what you're trying to say without speaking. Here's what nobody talks about: Q.ai stayed in stealth for 4 years. Never launched commercially. Just raised money from GV, Kleiner Perkins, and Spark Capital while building. Apple saw the future. Again. But here's what this $2B deal reveals about private markets: 87% of big tech acquisitions now happen before commercial launch. They're not buying revenue. They're buying capability. The math is brutal for traditional venture metrics: • Revenue multiples? Irrelevant. • Customer traction? Doesn't matter. • Product-market fit? Still in the lab. Meanwhile, VCs are still asking "What's your go-to-market strategy?" while the best founders are building 10-year moats in their garages. Translation: The venture playbook is broken. Founders with hard tech problems: Stop rushing to market to look "fundable." The right strategic buyer will pay more for your potential than your ARR. Investors: Your pattern matching to SaaS metrics is missing the biggest returns. Early bets on proven founders building foundational AI infrastructure are printing money. The game has changed.
