Delhi man arrested from Mumbai for killing wife after marital dispute

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband following a domestic dispute at their residence in Delhi's Shahdara area. The accused was later arrested from Mumbai, police said on Thursday, according to news agency PTI.The victim, identified as Rukshar, was found dead at her home in Kailash Nagar on June 13. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the murder and subsequently registered an FIR and launched an investigation.During the probe, CCTV footage allegedly showed the victim's husband, Khalid Navi, leaving the house shortly after the incident. According to police, the accused switched off his mobile phone, avoided electronic communication and left no digital trail."We then relied on human intelligence and extensive field verification. Enquiries revealed that the accused had links in Badaun in Uttar Pradesh, Hubballi in Karnataka, Mumbai and Goa. Police teams were dispatched to these locations while simultaneous searches were carried out in Delhi," the officer said.After three days of sustained efforts and interstate coordination, investigators developed a crucial lead regarding the accused's possible contact with his brother. He was traced and arrested in Mumbai on June 16, where he was allegedly attempting to conceal his identity.During interrogation, Khalid told police that he had been married to Rukshar for around 15 years and that the couple had three children. He allegedly revealed that frequent marital disputes over the past year and his suspicion that his wife was involved in a relationship with another person had led to repeated arguments between them."On the day of the incident, an argument broke out while he was trying to reconcile with her, following which he allegedly attacked her with a knife, causing her death. After the murder, he fled Delhi and travelled through multiple trains without tickets before reaching Mumbai," the officer said.Police said the accused was planning to seek help from his brother to evade arrest.According to officials, Khalid had previously been arrested six times in preventive proceedings.
