K Palanisamy is an Indian politician from AIADMK party and the chief minister of Tamil Nadu. He took oath as the Tamil Nadu CM on February 16, 2017, along with 30 MLAs as ministers in his cabinet.

Previously, he was serving as the Minister for Highways & Minor Ports in the Government of Tamil Nadu. He is the sitting Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Edapadi in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu. He has won the TN assembly elections four times, in 1989, 1991, 2011 and 2016. On all occasions, his seat has been Edapadi constituency.

A V K Sasikala loyalist, Palaniswami was chosen as the legislature party leader on February 14, 2017, hours after Supreme Court upheld the Bengaluru special court verdict convicting AIADMK interim general secretary Sasikala in the disproportionate assets case.

Palaniswami rose in ranks, apparently due to his proximity to Sasikala clan.

AIADMK leader K B S Raja resigned from the party on Monday. He is a cousin of party chief edappadi k palaniswami. Raja claimed he worked for the party for thirty years. He was denied an Assembly election ticket on two occasions. Raja did not announce his future political plans.
